Mission: Assistance league of santa clarita is a volunteer organization that develops and implements programs to make a difference in the lives of families in our community.
Programs: -operation school bell - our signature program, provides new clothing and shoes to over 2,200 elementary, junior high and high school children in the castaic union, saugus union, newhall, sulphur springs, and william s. Hart school districts each year so they may focus on learning. . Eligible children are identified by school personnel. With their parents, they are invited to shop for school clothing at a local department store. Assistance league volunteers and assisteens (our teen auxiliary members) are available to provide help and guidance at each shopping event. Since 1991, assistance league of santa clarita has served over 20,000 students in the santa clarita valley. Also included in operation school bell is the i care for kids program which provides eye exams and glasses, if needed, for the students in these districts of the santa clarita valley. Also, the community outreach programs are only allowed to be in that program designation for one year. Community outreach programs - allows flexibility to participate in and test service projects, such as:-ukealadies - a ukelele playing group that entertains at the senior center, convalescent hospitals and at other community events. -emergency community assistance - provides a one-time material or monetary provision to a family or individual in need. -family ties - once a month since 1990, our volunteers prepare home-cooked meals for residents at the santa clarita convalescent hospital. Volunteers also use this time to engage and socialize with the participants. All residents are also recognized on their birthdays with personal gifts. -teddy bear patrol - provides new teddy bears to local fire stations, law enforcement, urgent care medical facilities, children's service agencies and the domestic violence center for children in traumatic situations. Thousands of these teddy bears have comforted santa clarita valley children since the program's inception in 1989. -los angeles residential community (larc) ranch party - every year, the assisteens (our teen auxiliary members) plan and participate in a social event for the developmentally disabled residents of larc ranch. Music, dancing, and professional photos of the festivities make for a memorable afternoon for the attendees. -foster care backpacks - the assisteens provide backpacks with clothing, personal hygiene and items of comfort to the dept. Of children's services for children entering the foster care system. -the arts grants for schools brings professional artists and musical instruction to the school sites to enrich and engage students.
