Nonprofit Overview
Mission: The mission of Art That Heals, Inc., is to encourage cultural literacy in the Rio Grande Valley by promoting the arts and to use art to end the AIDS pandemic.
Results: *Art exhibits at the McAllen airport and local libraries. *Art swap--an exchange and educational program for artists. *Life Mastery Retreats--we’ve had several since 2002, when we were founded: a weekend retreat for people who are HIV-positive, their friends, families, and caregivers. *Coffee Talk Series--readings of literature by amateur and professional writers, authors, and poets. *Founded the Rio Grande Valley International Poetry Festival (www.vipf.org) in 2008--now a successful annual event, Valleywide. *Artbeat--a cultural program combining jazz and art that was a large fundraiser for us. *O.P.P. (Other People's Poetry)--an event where readers share poetry written by a famous or published author.
