Mission: Annapolis coalition mission is to improve the quality of life of individuals and communities by strengthening the effectiveness of all who work to prevent, treat, and support recovery from mental illness and substance use conditions.
Programs: During the past year the annapolis coalition has continued its work in the public interest to strengthen the nation's behavioral health workforce. In collaboration with the wiche mental health program, the coalition provided technical assistance to the alaska native tribal health consortium regarding the revision of its behavioral health aide competencies. The coalition also contributed to a national evaluation of the federally funded minority fellowship program, with a focus on the master's level fellowships that were launched under president's obama's "now is the time" initiative as a response to the sandy hook tragedy. At the request of the national association of state mental health program directors and with funding from the federal substance abuse and mental health services administration, the coalition produced a workforce issue brief on workforce development in coordinated specialty care programs. The leadership of the coalition published a number of peer reviewed articles on behavioral health workforce development as part of the organization's effort to educate the field about best practices. Guidance on workforce issues to professionals and the public was provided through multiple presentations at conference events around the country by board members and staff.
