If you want to donate to an organization that does specific, concrete good deeds, this is the one! My wife and I have had to make two 911 calls for child-related emergencies, one for each of our young sons. The AVFD showed up within minutes for each. Mission: The Volunteers of AVFD raise funds to maintain 2 separate Fire Stations, Cos. 8 & 23 in Fairfax County. The corporation is responsible for construction and maintenance of both stations. One hundred percent of building costs are borne by the Volunteers. We also provide 12 pieces of Fire apparatus for which we are responsible for replacement. The majority of the apparatus payments are borne by the Volunteers.
