Programs: Angel medical center auxiliary (the "auxiliary") operates as a section 509(a)(3) supporting organization, operating for the benefit and support of angel medical center, inc. (the "hospital"), also a section 501(c)(3) organization. The auxiliary recruits, trains and supervises volunteers who augment the work of the hospital employees in their care of hospital patients. Numerous hours of volunteer time (140 volunteers for 2010-2011) are provided to the hospital, allowing hospital employees to spend additional resources on other patient and community services. Fundraising is of secondary importance, ranking after the personal work of the volunteers. Fundraising is primarily centered on gift shop and thrift shop sales, uniform sales, jewelry sales or donations. All activity is performed by volunteers with the auxiliary maintaining no paid employees. Auxiliary funds provide for several scholarships awarded to hospital employees seeking additional training within the medical field. As of the year ending september 30, 2011, scholarships totaling $4,000 were awarded to seven deserving individuals. Additionally, the major portion of auxiliary funds is utilized to purchase unbudgeted equipment and supplies for the hospital, directly benefiting patients. During the year ending september 30, 2011, the following items were purchased for the hospital, totaling $38,000: equipment, furnishings, and hygiene supplies. Total grants to hospital: $40,202
