Am proud to be on the Board of Andover Community Trust: a non-profit organization in Andover, Massachusetts dedicated to building permanently affordable homes in our town where the median house price hovers around $680,000. Our mission is to provide families who qualify for the affordable income guidelines a chance to live in our community and have their chldren attend our public schools. When we acquire a property on which to build an affordable home, the local vocational school students are invited to build the home for us. They get real life hands-on experience with construction trades and have pride in their handiwork overseen both by their instructors and the Town's Building Department. Our organization has been around for over 25 years having built 7 permanently affordable homes and is now in a collaborative project with Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity building 3 duplex permanently affordable homes on Lupine Rd. in Andover.
I have assisted in housing selection and housing creation efforts for several years now.
The Mission of ACT is amazing...building permanently affordable housing, keeping it in trust perpetually, and enjoining the greater community in building the houses.
The happiness and opportunity it provides to young families would bring tears to anyone who hears the stories of these families.
I was at the edge of losing my affordable apartment and Ms. Denise stood up for me till my lease was reinstated. The whole staff is kind and hardworking toward less vulnerable family. Am always thankful that my children have a roof over their heads.
This organization is leading the way promoting and creating affordable homes in Andover. They create and preserve homeownership opportunities for families of modest income who will benefit from the opportunity to live in the community but just can't afford to purchase a home in Andover. Being a homeowner empowers individuals and stabilizes families. A unique and added bonus of the ACT program is the real-world experience and job training the students of the Greater Lawrence Technical School acquire while building the permanently affordable homes for ACT. It's a win-win and I am truly fulfilled knowing my time and treasure are helping this organization.
