Helping one kid at a time is what we do. Our program is designed to provide personal growth for each of our youth. We use what we call the "Personal Growth Model". It is a program we developed that provides a youth the opportunity for assistance from a personal standpoint in 3 critical areas: behavioral modification, education and treatment. Each youth is assessed and a personal plan is developed for them with goals in each of the three areas. Our goal is to take a non productive person in society and turn them into a tax paying citizen when they return to the community. We have been in Jacksonville since 1973 and we have helped over 10,000 Duval County youth in that time.

I have been involved with AMIKids for more than 40 years. I am inspired to continue because I see the passion of the staff members and the amazing results of their efforts. Most staff members could earn higher salaries in other endeavors, but they stay with AMIKids because they see how their efforts, directed by the principles AMIKids has evolved over the years, change (and in many cases save) the lives of the young men and women with whom they work. I have been involved with several other organizations that help disadvantaged people, but I have never seen another organization that is as successful as AMIKids in converting delinquent kids into young men and women with a sincere determination to overcome their past and become productive members of society.
I've been with the organization for going on 6 years and although challenging, it is very rewarding. Creating a mentoring program that has been going on for better than a year now has been the most challenging, but seeing our students connect with a Mentor and enjoy the company of a friend in the community is well worth the effort.
We were fortunate to be awarded a grant to bring an Arts & Cultural Program here and the students are enjoying instruction in Art, Drama and music appreciation. These are programs that will foster discipline and open opportunities for the students to express their creativity in a positive manner. We've established partnerships with other agencies in the community that have opened their doors to our students with their youth programs and encouraged our kids to participate in basketball and other group activities. These types of opportunities give our kids alternatives to just hanging in the streets of Jacksonville and provide opportunities for them to fellowship in a positive way.
at ami kids im learning about cosmetology along with my regular academic classes.im also studying to get my ged.ami kids has alot to offer for me.they tought me to never give up and always strive to do better.
AMI has been both good and bad in some ways. the good ways are the teachers help the people thats doing what they're suppose to get out by issuing 3's to earn gold cards, the bad part is that we have to stay everyday until 4 o'clock . in addition to the good part i like to participate in drama, art, basketball, learning about graphic design, and the health department has helped me learn many new things.
