Mission: The Palo Alto Area Chapter, American Red Cross, is one of 1,300 chapters nationwide that delivers disaster preparedness & response, health and safety training and international social services. Chartered in 1916, our mission is to help individuals prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. We help people cope with large and small-scale natural disasters and personal emergencies (e.g., accidents, fires, injuries, heart attacks and homelessness). Our service area is Mountain View, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Stanford and Moffett Field. We also support other chapters - locally, statewide, nationally and internationally - in the event of a large-scale disaster.
Programs: Programs at the Palo Alto Area, American Red Cross include First Aid and CPR training, disaster relief, disaster preparedness education, and programs for youth that includes Safe Ride - a program that provides confidential weekend rides home to teens that may have been drinking. The Chapter also offers courses in Pet First Aid, aquatic programs, babysitters training and ServSafe - a course of serving safe food which meets requirements of the American Restaurant Association.
