This organization does so much for the remote backcountry area of San Diego County, California. I've seen firsthand at how often they will overextend themselves for our veterans, their families, and their small community. They are one of few ALAs that continues to pay for the Girls State delegate to attend Girls State session. What touches my heart is their strive to promote the Americanism Program essay contest which is educating the youth about America and the importance of being an American. I have experienced being a judge for the reading the essays and to see what our youth believe and know about America is very moving and close to my heart. I cannot express how I feel when the kids are recognized in front of their peers. The proud look of accomplishment of being recognized is priceless to me. Without their support there are youth in the community that could not afford a higher education. They are the most relied upon non-profit in the small remote community. From what I know is that they do fundraisers for other non-profits for the success of their programs such as the local museum. The attached picture is of the senior and junior members volunteering at the VA Hospital. They serve home cooked meals and play Bingo with our veterans.
