Direct beneficiaries per year: In Illinois, the American Diabetes Association unites the power of scientists, health care professionals, individuals, families, policymakers, corporations, charitable organizations, and communities to advance diabetes treatment and prevention, find cures and improve lives. 532 Campers: Camp empowers children with diabetes and their caregivers with the tools and support they need to gain the confidence, knowledge, and independence to live a safe and healthy life. 26,674 Diabetes Advocates: Drive the development, passage and implementation of federal and state legislation and policy that ensures affordable access to health care and medications; protections from discrimination due to diabetes; and a continued public investment in diabetes research and prevention. 81 Discrimination Cases Handled: We help people facing discrimination at work, at school, and elsewhere in their lives. 150 Diabetes Education Program Sites Reaching about 53,072 Participants
