Causes: Alzheimers Disease, Health
Mission: In May 1981, seven people who had been touched by Alzheimers through their experience with a family member came together for the first time. While recounting the stress and challenges that they had faced, they determined that there was a need in the Kansas City community for some type of support organization for people dealing with this devastating disease.
They continued to meet, and the group grew to over 200 family members and professionals in just a few months. Astounded by this large response, the group organized into the Alzheimers Association Heartland Chapter. As one of over 200 chapters affiliated with the National Alzheimers Association, service area includes eleven counties in Missouri: Jackson, Clay, Platte, Carroll, Cass, Johnson, Lafayette, Ray, Henry, Bates, and St. Clair. It also serves fourteen counties in Kansas: Johnson, Wyandotte, Leavenworth, Linn, Douglas, Franklin, Miami, Anderson, Allen, Bourbon, Neosho, Crawford, Labette, and Cherokee.
