We offer 3, 5 and 10 week class sessions, as well as one day workshops and week long summer camps for children. We provide private tutoring to over 100 individuals each year and french language classes to several public schools in the twin cities, as well as to several twin cities businesses. We provided 6 full year and 2 partial year scholarships to area high schools students, and hosted on site educational field trips for area schools. Worldwide francophone culture: we hosted over 150 social and cultural events with over 4000 attendees during the fiscal year to learn about french speaking countries, people and traditions. Our media center offers more than 5000 books in french and more than 500 french language films for our members to borrow.
I learned more in about three classes than I feel my high school French classes gave me in a year. The way the classes are set up is a really great structure and it helps a lot to hear it from a native speaker. The events and information also really tie you into the culture.
The Alliance Française of Minneapolis & St. Paul has grown to be become a great organization to the service of the Twin Cities' community. The languages classes are taught by professional dedicated native french speakers, and the cultural events have brought writers, journalists, artists (painters, musicians, photographers) from around the world that have enriched and fed the cultural needs of the community. I have been involved with the organization for several years at the board level and for almost twenty years overall. The Alliance remains one of my main sources of new contacts and allows me to help people with getting connected to the community. I have made some great friends and wonderful business contacts thanks to the Alliance. As the Board Chair, I really enjoy driving the organization at the strategic level, while serving as the #1 volunteer by attending and helping at almost every events. I have also been able to mentor a few of the AF interns and developed great relationships with them as well. It is always a great feeling for me to give back to the community and the Alliance has been the best place for me to do so.
