Causes: Civil Rights, Voter Education & Registration, Voting Rights
Mission: The bus federation is advancing a new era of democracy that is locally led and publicly engaged. We envision a society where young voters come out to the polls in numbers that actually shape the public discourse; and an electoral system that encourages rather than discourages all people to be active and engaged participants.
Programs: Affiliate capacity building - the bus federation provides training, coaching, convening, and ongoing support for program development, staff management, fundraising, and financial management for our local affiliate network in seven states. This training, coaching, and support is provided for local staff and board members, many of whom are serving in their positions for the first time in their careers.
national voter registration day -every election, millions of americans miss out because they don't know how to register to vote or they miss deadlines. The bus coordinates and promotes national voter registration day, supporting over 2,000 nonprofit, business, media, and technology partners to help register young voters and make individuals aware of impending registration deadlines.
affiliate program - in partnership with our affiliate network, the bus federation implements local civic engagement program, helping develop new leaders, register and mobilize young voters, and educate young people about key issues in their communities. In 2014, these efforts helped 94,670 young people register to vote, called 252,757 young people to educate them about local elections or issues, trained 505 fellows and interns, and educated and engaged young people about voting rights, abortion and women's health, lgbtq equality, economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, and transit fun.
