Causes: Education, Educational Services
Mission: The alliance for retired americans educational fund (araef) is a social welfare organization devoted to research and educational issues of importance to seniors, retirees and their families. The araef focuses primarily on three program areas: (i) research and development of written materials that deal with public policy issues that affect retirees; (ii) education on public policy issues that affect retirees; and (iii) working with other not-for-profit organizations on issues that affect seniors, retirees and their families. The following programs describe each of these activities in greater detail.
Programs: Field mobilization: provide training and development and grant seeking training for community leaders. Provide leadership development and coalition building among nonprofit organizations and community groups with the goal of fostering activism among retirees and seniors with the goal of impacting issues affecting seniors. The alliance as partner with finra investor education foundation developed and delivered effective investor protection outreach on "outsmarting investments fraud and "investment fraud prevention outreach" to disseminate in local markets throughout the united states. With grant support from finra the alliance trained 968 attendees to make outsmarting investment fraud presentations. The alliance for retired americans educational fund worked with finra to co-brand other educational materials for this program. This resulted in presentations at state conferences, conventions, and executive board meetings including thirty-one presentations to 13 state alliance conventions with an estimated total of attendance of 2,350 activists. These presentations utilized the power point cd and the flip chart as well as playing portions of the tv documentary and passing out support materials. Hundreds of the dvd's and thousands of other collateral materials were distributed.
lcao: as a member of lcao the alliance participated in the lcao meetings for cy 2017. As a member the alliance attended meetings outside the office in washington, dc. Lcao is a large a coalition of the nation's non-profit organizations serving older americans. It is composed of 70 member organization that are diverse and dedicated to preserving and strengthening the well-being of american's older population. The membership dues from each of these 72 organizations helps to covers the administrative costs of lcao's meetings activities. Lcao provides a voice for seniors and their families in the ongoing national debate on aging policy. Lcao fights for the well-being of america's older population and committed to representing their interests in the policy-making arena. Recognizing that the strength of the coalition lies in the diversity of its membership, the purpose of the lcao is to foster communication and resource sharing among its member organizations, to serve as a source of information about issues affecting older persons, and to provide leadership and vision as america meets the challenges and opportunities presented by its society.
communications: provides media campaign coverage to promote the educational fund, advises on public relations for the educational fund including information brochures and publications and provides written content to update educational fund's website.
