Mission: Until every woman is safe, Women Defending Ourselves will teach self-defense classes that empower women and girls to realize and act on their strengths. We believe in building on women's experiences and knowledge in self defense. Our affordable, comprehensive classes inspire confidence through assertiveness techniques, physical strategies, and discussions of ending violence and oppression. Together we will live strong and free. Goals: - To end violence against women. - To empower women and girls to reach their full potential - To provide women and girls with physical, verbal, mental, and emotional tools with which to defend themselves. - To dispel myths about violence against women. - To end all forms of oppression through education of ourselves and others. - To be a model of a non-violent, non-oppressive organization. - To teach self-defense classes and workshops that are affordable, provide a safe space, and are accessible to women and girls of all backgrounds and abilities. - To teach diverse populations of women and girls, and to maintain a diverse membership. - To tailor our courses to respond to the varying needs of the individual students and communities we teach. - To network with other organizations and build coalitions around shared issues. - To continue educating ourselves and improving our skills, knowledge, and curricula.
