Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Community Improvement & Capacity Building, International, International Relief, Leadership Development

Mission: Africa Bridge partners with communities in SW Tanzania to ensure they have the capacity to improve the lives of their most vulnerable children. We help them broaden their skills, strengthen their economies, and improve their health care and environment. Our mission is to engage leaders to serve children who have been orphaned and/or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS Africa in sub-Saharan Africa. Africa Bridge was founded and received 501(c) 3 status in 2000. Our partnership began in the remote village of Idweli in SW Tanzania in November 2002, where we ran a series of community meetings with 64 children and 58 adults to determine the needs of children in the community who had been orphaned and to develop and agree on a plan for the future. This resulted in a strategy to start income generating projects, to enroll children in school and to develop a children?s center. In late 2005 Africa Bridge expanded its operations to all eight villages of the Isongole Ward, including Idweli. Following these developments, Africa Bridge began further expansion into the Masoko Ward beginning in 2007 and into 2008.
