I have volunteered with Afram Globals village projects in Ghana for the past 5 yrs and I have to say it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
I am so pleased to be a part of this organization and its project groups in The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s (www.villageprojects.net). I have watched it grow from just an idea to an organization that has made a positive difference in hundreds of lives through their diverse projects and programs. This is definitely one of those groups with a big picture vision that will be around for a long time. As they state on their websites and in all their program efforts, their umbrella mission is simple: "To create environments in which persons from diverse circumstances and experiences can come together and co-learn with each other in a way that bridges the opportunity gaps, retains the respective cultures, and ultimately benefits society." Last year they launched the Annual Villager Awards honoring and connecting persons who have distinguished themselves as persons who "lift as they climb" taking their broadly informed mentoring and networking strategies back to the grassroots level. This is the nonprofit to watch and to support. This group's work strengthens communities and builds the base of support for sustained actions over time...
