Mission: Advocacy and protective services, inc. ("apsi") is an independent organization which advocates for outcomes that promote the dignity, respect and enhanced quality of life for individual persons with disabilities, primarily those with intellectual disabilities.
Programs: Apsi contracts with the ohio department of developmental disabilities to provide guardianship and other protective services for eligible adults with developmental disabilities according to ohio law and by the authority of ohio probate courts. As guardian of the person only, apsi has the authority to make day-to-day decisions on behalf of the individual, addressing matters such as living arrangements, service providers, and medical care. Apsi does not serve as guardian of the estate, which covers the individual's finances and property. This year, apsi served 3,921 individuals throughout ohio's 88 counties. Apsi specializes in serving individuals with the highest level of needs in the least restrictive manner possible. To ensure the health and safety of these clients, apsi staff completed 24,548 visits to our clients' homes and work settings and apsi medical staff responded to 7,951 after-hours phone calls. Apsi promotes self-determination, self-advocacy, and principles of least restrictive services focused on person-centered planning. Apsi staff are committed to enhancing an individual's lifestyle in a way that best supports individual needs and preferences while protecting the person from harm. Apsi provides guardianship services according to the best interest of the individual, which means the course of action that maximizes what is best for the person with consideration of the least intrusive, most normalizing, and least restrictive course of action possible given the needs of the individual.
