Mission: Because all children need families, the adoption exchange association (aea) serves its members by stimulating innovative solutions, eliminating barriers, advocating, educating and sharing excellent practice. Aea's central goal is to assist and encourage its members nationwide as they find adoptive families for all children and youth who wait in foster care.
Programs: See schedule oadoptuskids: this program, funded through a five year cooperative agreement with the u. S. Department of health and human services, increases the capacity of states and tribes to recruit and retain foster and adoptive parents for children who wait in foster care. Components of adoptuskids include training and technical assistance, a foster/adoptive parent respite initiative, the fulfillment of a national advertising campaign in conjunction with the advertising council, a website providing resources to both families and workers as well as a photo listing for children and families, and an evaluation component that provides feedback on all adoptuskids initiatives. Among its many accomplishments during the first eleven plus years: 26,751 children previously featured on adoptuskids. Org now live with permanent adoptive families, 300,968 families contacted aea to begin the process to adopt, and training and technical assistance was provided to states and tribes throughout the country.
