Causes: Children & Youth, Youth Development
Mission: To ensure that adolescents and young adults obtain the academic, vocational, personal and social skills necessary to complete high school and enter postsecondary education or training are employed in jobs that support themselves and their families well and are valued as key contributors to the communitys healthy growth and development.
Programs: Wia youth programs annually provide workforce development activities and services to over 500 youth who are economically disadvantaged and demonstate one or more specific barriers to employment and/or higher educatione. G. ,involvement in the juvenile justice system, pregnant or parenting,homelessness, educationally disadvantaged, etc. . Youth typically participate for at least one year, with a coordinated set of follow-up activities for at least 12 months following program completion. Training is focused on work readiness and occupational skills and there is a strong emphasis on education h. S. Completion, ged preparation, and postsecondary education/advanced training. Primary outcomes include attainment of specific skill sets and credentials, job placement, and entry into/completion of postsecondary training, with a major emphasis on long-term employment. There are strong partnerships to expand available opportunities
education-education programs include1 a fully accredited charter high school serving 165 students in grades 9-12 who are over-age and under-credited, have low levels of academic achievement and have a history of non-attendance 2 adult education services that provide basic skills developement, pre-ged development, ged preparation, and distance learningand an 3 integrated basic educaton and skills training program that integrates ged preparation, occupational skills training, and internship opportunities, resulting in a secondary dipolma, college credit, and licensing. Three hundred forty- five students are served annually.
youthbuild-yothbuild phoenix is a partnership with the city of phoenix and acyr to provide education, construction trades training, and leadership development activities for 72 young adults, 17-24. Acyr provides fileld coordination and ged preparation/basic skills, and subcontracts with other organizations to provide construction training and case management services. Strong partnerships with the community college system and other community -based organizations enchance service quality and efficiency through resource leveraging.
