Nonprofit Overview

Causes: International, International Development, International Migration & Refugee Issues, International Relief

Mission: Action Against Hunger is a global humanitarian organisation that takes decisive action against the causes and effects of hunger. We save the lives of malnourished children. We ensure everyone can access clean water, food, training and healthcare. We enable entire communities to be free from hunger.

Target demographics: those suffering from malnutrition, with a focus on the most vulnerable, including young children and women who are pregnant or nursing.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 13+ million people

Geographic areas served: over 45 countries around the world

Programs: Nutrition: Global hunger now afflicts more than a billion people worldwide. Severe acute malnutrition, however, is the more immediate killer: it threatens the lives of 19 million children. Every year as many as 5 million of them die from malnutrition-related causes. From rural mountain villages to the confines of refugee camps to ethnically divided cities, Action Against Hunger treats and prevents malnutrition in over 40 countries around the world. Our programs are launched most often during times of crisis and focus on the most vulnerable, including young children and women who are pregnant or nursing. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene: Almost a billion people on the planet don’t have access to clean drinking water. A third of the world’s population lives without basic sanitation infrastructure like a toilet. Every day 4,000 children die from illnesses like diarrhea, dysentery, and cholera caused by dirty water and unhygienic living conditions. We can’t fight malnutrition without tackling the diseases that contribute to it. As part of our integrated approach to hunger, we’re getting safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services to communities in need all over the world. Food Security & Livelihoods: Action Against Hunger’s food security & livelihoods programs tackle the root causes of hunger: problems of access, income, and production. Our food security & livelihoods activities aim to prevent outbreaks of life-threatening acute malnutrition by helping some of the most vulnerable communities around the world regain nutritional self-sufficiency. While our programs encompass a wide array of activities, all are customized to meet the specific needs of each community. Emergency Response: From cholera epidemics sweeping through refugee camps, to catastrophic natural disasters, to malnutrition crises brought on by drought, Action Against Hunger responds to humanitarian emergencies all over the world, delivering immediate life-saving services to populations in distress. With emergency teams on call 24 hours a day, and pre-positioned stocks of essential supplies ready for deployment, our internationally renowned rapid response capabilities ensure that life-saving assistance can be deployed anywhere in the world when needs arise.

Effectiveness, efficiency and transparency are the keys - the activities of AAH can be not only easily tracked, followed through the many reports and RESULTS through the online and paper articles and news items (also through their annual report), but photos and videos on youtube make you feel confident about a very high portion of your money going directly towards paying for goods and services for those in the absolute need for them. Instead of supporting several organizations with small amounts, it is more effective to support a carefully-chosen one with donations that make a bigger difference and don't result in wasteful marketing coming from several funds towards you - at an increased cumulative cost and making your money used much less effectively. I chose AAH many years ago and have seen my money spent wisely. As long as they keep up their excellent work, they will be my chosen organization to support.

Action Against Hunger has been amazing from the start! They're one of the most efficient charities ever and they're fixing a problem that doesn't need radical developments or transformational technology!

At Kraken Gaming, we've worked closely with Action Against Hunger for over four years, and the experience has been nothing short of phenomenal, every single time.

In our recent partnership, we spearheaded a wonderful program initiated by Christian Pielow at Action Against Hunger called "Stream Against Hunger" that aims to unite the live-broadcasting community to support a noble cause. Christian, particularly, has far exceeded his duties to help us with the program, from making a sensational presentation that captured the attention of thousands to incentivizing donations, planning, management and virtually everything.

The support we've received from Action Against Hunger is nothing short of spectacular, and for any person or corporation looking to make a positive and effective social difference can rest assured that Action Against Hunger is the best charity to work with!

Action Against Hunger is an innovative and foreword thinking organization. They utilize their NYC location to raise awareness and funds for acute child malnutrition and poor sanitation in underdeveloped countries. They furthermore utilize soft power techniques in their operations by working with the local peoples to create sustainable, thriving communities.

I got the opportunity to work as a volunteer in the New York City Headquarters from May - August. From this experience I was able to learn about the life-saving programs around the world as well as develop professional skills in marketing, communications, and fundraising from their professional staff.

Action Against Hunger is what every non-profit should be - transparent, efficient, innovative and compassionate. They are a no-frills organization whose metrics speak for themselves. The organization consistently meets real issues with long-term, sustainable solutions and the money goes where it's supposed to - 93% of donations go straight to their life saving programs. Five stars!

I contribute to Action Against Hunger because $0.93 of every dollar goes directly to field operations! With such low overhead, it doesn't get much better than that for making sure as much as my donation helps those in need!

Action Against Hunger has become the major focus of my charitable giving. What they do is incredibly important and it appears from my research that they do it very well. I initially donated to Action Against Hunger three years ago because after doing some research, I felt it was a good fit for where my heart is. After giving, I received a warm thank you and subsequently have been contacted a couple times a year with information. What I am saying is they don't waste a bunch of postage on junk-mail that would just irritate me. But they also make it very clear that if I ever have questions or want more information, they will accommodate me. So, I have continued to donate to AAH with a sense of peace that the funds are being used efficiently for a noble cause.

I became a monthly donor with Action Against Hunger just this year, when I learned that it only take $45 dollars a month to save the life of a child. Their commitment to transparency assured me that they are using my donation in a truly effective manner and that this was an agency that was truly changing the future for children world wide. Thank you Action Against Hunger for giving me the chance to help children!

I donated to Action Against Hunger after learning more about the organization through a personal contact there. What initially impressed me was the passion of the people who work there. They truly are committed to eradicating world hunger and work as a team to make inroads and respond to crises. That combined with the transparency and coast effectiveness of the organization makes supporting Action Against Hunger/ACF USA a no-brainer!

My friend showed me a video about the work that ACF and other organizations are doing to decrease world hunger and make it easier to get food to those who need it most. In this animated video, they talked of families who couldn't get their children to the hospital in time to get the food that they needed and the children perished. This was shown through the use of animation of of a baby in a box that suddenly disappeared. I was so saddened by the disappearing baby boxes and impressed by all the wonderful work ACF has done to create non-perishable food to get to children that I felt impelled to become a monthly donor right then and there. It's the least I can do to help prevent babies in boxes form disappearing.

ACF is dedicated to assisting children and their families with the most basic requirements for health and survival -- clean water and nutritional supplements. In many places across the globe, children benefit from the help that ACF provides. The ACF message is a compelling one, the organization is cost-effective and efficient, and I'm proud to support their efforts.

I was motivated to donate to ACF for Valentine's Day. I could have purchased one meal for myself and my husband at an over-priced, noisy, crowded restaurant -- or, instead, I could have purchased enough therapeutic food to help a small child survive, and hopefully thrive, for a full month. What decision would you have made? I think our whole world is essentially a small village, and that if we are blessed with plenty we should remember to be grateful and to share.
