Mission: Founded in 1988, A Community of Friends' mission is to end homelessness through the provision of quality supportive housing for people with mental illness. Our goal is to create safe, attractive, independent living environments with on-site supportive services to help our tenants stabilize their lives.
Results: We have created 35 apartment communities in the past 22 years. Over 85% of our tenants have remained housed after one year, with 55% of the remaining stable in housing after three years.
Target demographics: Homeless individuals and families whose head of household has a mental health diagnosis.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 1,200 formerly homeless adults. All beneficiaries are under 35% of area median income (less than $16,000/year in Los Angeles).
