5 for fairness is an amazing website that gives so many opportunities to so many charities. They donate a very generous $5,000 to one of the multiple wonderful charities that they are bring to people's attention. I have only been interning for a week and have extreme admiration for everyone on the team. All of these people are so dedicated to this cause, and having all of the charities recognized and I am so lucky to be a part of this. All of the charities that we are trying to get noticed are so inspiring and I have only the highest of regards to Anna, the woman who has made all of this possible.

5 for Fairness gives so many amazing charities a chance of getting the money that they need to keep going. These charities have changed and enriched the lives of so many young women around the world. Members or voters donate $5 for a grant, making it a very convenient task. There is ample information of every organization in the running to receive the grant, as well as information on news of women's rights in general. An incredible charity.

I’ve been interning at 5 for Fairness for over six months. A few years ago I heard about this organization in a community awareness class and I was immediately intrigued by 5 for Fairness because as a teenage girl I strongly believe in equal rights for women. I am lucky to have so many privileges, such as an education, that a great deal of women don’t and through 5 for Fairness, I am able to help girls all over the world acquire the rights that I am fortunate to already have. This group is so great because it allows people like myself who aren’t constantly having to personally deal with issues concerning women’s rights be educated on the subject in an innovative and compelling way; and to make a difference in the lives of women and girls around the world. I feel enthusiastic about this cause and truly believe that anyone else who volunteers will feel the same eagerness that I do.

Five for Fairness is a truly innovative and inspiring model for social change. My organization, Maasai Girls Education Fund, has interacted regularly with 5 for Fairness since February 2012, and we have been met time and again with respect, enthusiasm, and helpfulness. The feeling of community and connection is the most unique feature of 5 for Fairness, as they work to create a space of open communication and learning. It is without hesitation that I recommend this organization.

5 for fairness is an incredible, innovative non-profit organization. Not only does it grant money to amazing, well-deserving organizations, but it also makes it easy to do so! This website has managed to foster an incredible community in which everyone is eager to help each other and these organizations! The reasons for 5 for fairness's remarkable growth are clear- people are excited to join a organization that makes it easy to help people. Also members truly feel like they're involved and important in this community because everyone has a say on where the money goes! Overall a fantastic nonprofit!

My love for 5forfairness has only grown since I have become involved with the organization. My interest in the non-profit began about two years ago, and now I have been volunteering as an intern for over a year and I am even more fascinated by the multitude of this endeavor. Not only does it provide 5000 dollar grants to people in need, It also forms a community unlike any other social media outlet. It is a place where everyone has a common goal which is: to help people. The website focuses on helping women across the world and enlightens all of it's members continuously with inspiring and profound stories. I recommend becoming a member to anyone who enjoys, learning, helping and excitement.

5 for Fairness is an engaging community that fosters both awareness and change. The volunteers and interns are all genuinely interested and dedicated to women's causes, which makes them all wonderful and fun to work with. The site gets easier and easier to use each year, and creates a win/win situation for everyone who participates: even the causes that do not win a $5000 grant get lots of exposure to an ideal demographic: people who are interested in women's causes and care about having a positive impact on the globe. And because $5000 grants are being given away more and more frequently, being apart of this site really has made me feel the time I spend on it is meaningful. All in all, a phenomenal site run by phenomenal people.

We all want to give back and Five for Fairness makes it so easy. They are an incredible organization based on a genius model that makes it possible for even the laziest philanthropic minded person to engage. I love their focus on women and girls to make for a more equal and just world. This non-profit is one that everyone should join. It takes just a little bit of money ($5)!!! to feel a part of the bigger picture.

Five for Fairness is an incredible organization. I have been working with them for about a year now and i find it absolutely fascinating and inspiring. Not only does one amazing organization get a 5000 dollar grant every cycle, but the other teams in the run get their voice heard by so many in social communities. Women are empowered through so many different organizations that come together on this wonderful non profit website!

I found 5 for Fairness after my mom (Solar Sister) won a grant cycle. I saw how this helped my mom's nonprofit and I decided right then and there that I wanted to help other social entrepreneurs make a difference in the world. This is such a great opportunity to become more aware of how people are really making an impact and addressing the problems of the world. For example, I interviewed the founder of the Orchid Project, Julia Lalla-Maharajh, and learned a lot about Female Genital Cutting (FGC) which I had not known about. Without 5 For Fairness I would never have known about how girls my own age are subjected to this dangerous and demeaning practice in some places in the world. It means a lot to me to be able to learn and understand about these issues. With 5 for Fairness I can get involved to help address these issues. There is a lot of behind the scene action which is what the interns do and it can be sometimes very hard to keep up with the work but it is rather gratifying when it is all done.

So happy to have found a way to be involved with 5 for Fairness. This is a great way for people to become aware of projects around the world that help women's causes for a $5 donation. I became aware of 5 for Fairness as my daughter was interning for Voice for Girls in India. Camp Voice was entered as a non-profit to win a $5000 grant. We worked hard in the first cycle and didn't win, but the second time I was involved Camp Voice got enough vote to win! I think this brings awareness to all the groups that are in the running for the grant.

I work for Orchid Project, a UK-based international charity working for an end to female genital cutting, and we discovered 5 For Fairness when Anna approached us via Twitter - Orchid Project went on to join the Mary Norton Shands grant cycle and ultimately to win the $5000 grant in June 2011, to our delight. 5 For Fairness is a fantastic charity for raising awareness with a new audience, and for inspiring people to feel more involved with the charities they are supporting. We were able to test our messaging and our approach to fundraising, and to spread the message that there is hope for an end to female genital cutting around the world, through positive engagement with communities - fulfilling our charitable objective of awareness-raising as much as our fundraising aim. 5 For Fairness is an exciting fundraising model because it's different, and fosters a real sense of involvement with potential donors and it's a wonderful thing to have been a part of.

Hi Ruthie and thanks so much for your review. We are going to make exactly the change you would like to see for our next grant cycle. When new members join, they won't need to "support" a Team any more, only vote for it when the voting begins. Thanks again for being such a wonderful and inspiring advocate for Orchid Project and...congratulations on winning the grant!

Anna McDonnell brings a nurturing, giving, highly researched, intelligent 'real human dimension' to everything she touches. I think, in founding "5 For Fairness" she has been clever to make all barriers to entry low. The ground swell has been huge and as Anna intended, people are 'educating themselves and each other and helping find solutions' that are most definitely going to make a difference! This is NOT a 'throw money at it without involvement or too much thought' kind of philanthropy . Through a lot of hard work Anna has set it up so that it is do-able for every member to be as hands on as they are able to be. Another plus - all members must vote and that means they have a duty to be informed. How great is that vis-a vis the ripple effect!

5 for Fairness (http://5forfairness.org/) tops my list of the many great non-profit organizations out there. Why? It's run by US, yes, the volunteers - under the wonderful guidance of Anna McDonnell, who started the whole thing and probably works the hardest! Several worthy organizations are brought forth by US, then voted for by US, the one receiving the most votes gets the grant. Then we start the grant cycle all over again. There is no doubt where my money and effort is going and who it's going to serve. Everything is transparent in 5 for Fairness. You can get as involved as you have time for. This is a great grass roots charitable organization and I'm so glad I found them!

I've been a member of 5 for Fairness since summer, 2009 and have been so impressed by the way the foundation is set up, the way it has grown into an international community and how we members really do help make life better for girls, around the word. The internet has allowed us to be an interactive community, a philanthropic foundation with zero overhead whose members range in age from 15 to 85! Every member is able to nominate a non-proft program they admire, as long as it is dedicated to helping girls. Every member can get involved by inviting new members, raising money, and adding videos, informative links and inspiring personal stoires to our website. And every member has a say (a vote) in chosing our grantee, once we raise the $5,000.00 grant we give away. We set out to try and make the world a better place and we find that it is each of us who is changed by the experience.

I was introduced to 5 For Fairness last year. I had just returned from doing human rights work in the The Congo and was trying to raise money for the amazing organization, Man Up-- a global youth initiative that helps discover solutions to stop violence against women and young girls. My freind Helen Bartlett told me about 5 For Fairness and introduced me to Anna McDonnell and her son Eliot. Eliot had submitted Man Up in the 5 For Fairness grant competition. Although MU came in second, awareness was raised not only regarding the Man Up campaign but about the horrific violence happening in the Congo.

I have been active in charitable organizations for many years, both as a volunteer and a donor.
What I particularly admire about 5forFairness is it's egalitarian nature. No one member is any more important than any other.
And it is a model of efficiency. All the money that is donated goes directly to the recipient, and it's reach is truly global.

"Thirty years after the adoption of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), many girls and women still do not have equal opportunities to realize rights recognized by law. In many countries, women are not entitled to own property or inherit land. Social exclusion, “honor” killings, female genital mutilation, trafficking, restricted mobility and early marriage among others, deny the right to health to women and girls and increase illness and death throughout the life-course.

We will not see sustainable progress unless we fix failures in health systems and society so that girls and women enjoy equal access to health information and services, education, employment and political positions."

— Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General, World Health Organization, Equal rights and opportunities for women and girls essential for better health, International Women’s Day, March 8, 2010"

5 for Fairness was started by a good a friend of mine who consistantly makes a difference in the world... she has 3 sons and I truly believe this nonprofit project is her "daughter". Anna has gathered people into 5 for Fairness to help make a change in young women's lives that would not have had an opportunity to get assistance without us. Each member of 5 for Fairness can feel their $5 has not only helped a woman in need but their donation and vote allows them to feel altrustic in the humblest sense.

5forfairness is filled with passion. The orginization is reletively small but has an incredible community of people who are profoundly interested in fostering fairness for girls both locally and internationally. 5forfairness allows for the fullest spectrum of recipients in the fairest way possible. it may not have any sort of groundbreaking new aspect of fairness for girls which it seeks to resolve, but rather it helps support all aspects of fairness for girls in a way that really makes a difference. 5forfairness is a groundbreaking idea in and of itself that helps heal an ongoing crises through the opinions of passionate members of the 5forfairness community. nobody is excluded from 5forfairness, it gets people who care involved who otherwise would not have the opportunity. it opens up worlds for its own community while helping open up new worlds for girls everywhere. This orginization is a beautiful thing filled with beautiful people and should be supported at any cost.

I recently became a Board Member of 5 For Fairness. I love this organization because it is an extremely effective way to give to groups that help under-served women and girls all over the world. The membership cost is low and because there are virtually no administration costs for 5 For Fairness, the donations go straight to the group that wins the grant. Because of the "competition" to win the grant, members get to learn about many other organizations and can donate or become active in them too.

I have been a board member since the creaton of this on-line grant-making non-profit. It was the idea of a friend of mine, who wanted to be active in reaching out to help those with projects for improving girls' circumstances in one's own neighborhood or on the other side of the world. The world is made small by the internet and 5 For Fairness is bridging the geographical gap. Also, the value of this effort is not just to attract and distribute fund to worthy projects, but to educate 5 For Fairness participants about worthy efforts on behalf of girls that, hopefully, will have the ripple effect of linking those with resources to those with needs in areas of interest for the participants.

I've never been an active member of a charitable organization before, though I have worked in many capacities, including fundraising, at my childrens' schools. At 5 for Fairness I've felt empowered to do so much. The concept that underlies the organization -- each member gives $5 and then we decide as a group where to give each $5000 that accumulates -- is both educational for me and inspiring. I have learned so much about the many worthy organizations that help women all over the world. I have felt as if my donation is part of a bigger thing. It has been an extraordinary experience and I'm so glad I joined.

I started working with 5 for Fairness last year and recently taken on a larger role. I think the power of this organization is not in the numbers (well not yet at least), but rather in the fact that it uses social networking to create equality for women internationally. Someone can spend as little as 5 minutes on the site and learn something new about an organization while connecting with other activists across the globe. The world is changing and the internet has become an important tool for promoting causes and raising money. I hope that more people will join the site soon and help us create equality for all!
