Causes: International, International Relief
Mission: Created as an alternative to traditional charitable programs and with the precise mission to contribute to fighting extreme poverty by helping to create sustainable jobs at fair wages in the central plateau of haiti through marketing, sales, public relations, financial assistance, education, training and other job-creating activities.
Programs: In fiscal year 2017, we continued to operate the following two women's cooperatives: women's embroidery cooperative at hinche, haiti: this is our longest running program and it continued in fy2017 as before. The women in the cooperative make embroidered products that are designed and marketed by 1000 jobs. These items are sold through the 1000 jobs website (1000jobshaiti. Org). We provided salaries for the supervisory women and wages for the workers under their supervision. Knitting cooperative at mirebalais and surrounding countryside: some 11 women who in past years have been exclusively knitting products for 1000 jobs is now also engaged in additional sustainable work - beekeeping and moringa tree cultivation. In fy2017, 1000 jobs provided the investment necessary to buy hives and bees and also contracted with food for the poor to provide supervision and training for the women. Later in the year, we purchased moringa seed and seedlings for an additional cash crop for the women to cultivate. In addition, 1000 jobs participated in the following project during fy2017:hurricane relief: after hurricane matthew in the fall of 2016, 1000 jobs raised funds to rebuild homes in the area most affected by matthew. We partnered with the salesian sisters who have operations in the affected area and provided $125,000 to the project. This was sufficient to rebuild some 13 homes in the region around les cayes.
