Programs: Bell's after school program operates up to 5 days per week, 3 hours per day, for 30 weeks at school-based sites. During fiscal year 2014, bell served 3,907 scholars in its after school program. 72% of scholars showed gains in reading test scores; 69% showed gains in math test scores. Bell programs set high expectations for scholars and include elements that are proven to increase their time-on-task and accelerate learning, including small-group instruction in literacy and math; mentorship from teachers and college students; experiential learning through enrichment courses, field trips and community service; parental involvement; and ongoing training and professional development for staff.
bell's summer program operates up to 5 days per week, 8 hours per day, for 8 weeks at school-based sites. During fiscal year 2014, bell served 7,935 scholars in its summer program. On average, scholars gain at least one month of grade-equivalent reading and math skills. Bell programs set high expectations for scholars and include elements that are proven to increase their time-on-task and accelerate learning, including small-group instruction in literacy and math; mentorship from teachers and college students; experiential learning through enrichment courses, field trips and community service; parental involvement; and ongoing training and professional development for staff.
