Results: over 10,00 children and families served FIRST in the COUNTRY equine assisted therapy curriculum for veteran and first responder families Peer reviewed journal article on humane education study on how the integration of therapy animals improves children's humane attitudes Presenting our positive outcome measures at national and international conferences for 20 years! First known animal assisted therapy program in the country to have 4 curriculum programs demonstrating positive outcomes with improved empathy, hopefulness in children, improved peer relationships, improved body awareness and attention

Target demographics: children, families, veterans and first responders receive mental health services with the comfort of therapy aniamls

Direct beneficiaries per year: in providing over 4,000 clinical animal assisted, nature and play therapy visits, over 100 hours of animal assisted therapy visits in schools, over 250 hours donated to the community

Geographic areas served: the state of Connecticut and consult nationwide

Programs: FIRST in the COUNTRY Horses Inspire equine assisted therapy curriculum for veteran and first responder families to improve parent-child relationships Healing Hearts - trauma and attachment informed group therapy incorporating the narrative of therapy animals (therapy dogs, guinea pigs and bunnies - many of them rescued) to help normalize, comfort and provide coping skills following traumatic, challenging events in children's lives. Shown to improve empathy and peer relationships Soul Friends office - providing play therapy, nature therapy and animal assisted therapy for children, families and adults Horses Inspire individual and group therapy

I have volunteered ( still do), interned, and am on the Board of Directors at Soul Friends. I have grown so much in my life, as well as with my rabbits, professionally and academically too. I've been inspired by watching and participating in the sessions with children and animals in groups & with individuals. Soul Friends is unique, values the clients, the animals, families and therapists like no other I've seen.

Soul Friends is a wonderful organization to work with. Kate has been leading the state and most of the country in animal assisted therapy program development and advocacy. They have helped thousands of children and teens throughout CT and are an integral part in school and after-school programs. A truly self-less and dedicated team of highly skilled and passionate individuals.
