Mission: Second Chance Toys rescues and rehomes gently-used plastic toys. Our mission is to keep toys out of landfills and into the hands of children in need by rehoming them locally to our partner community organizations.
Results: Since our founding in 2006: • 400,000 toys recirculated and rehomed to children in need. • Average 1.5 million pounds of plastic diverted from landfills. • Over 1 million children positively impacted by the importance of play.
Target demographics: the environment and children in need.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 25,000 children with each round of shared play
Geographic areas served: The United States
Programs: Many plastic toys are disposed of when they could still be used. Given the nature of plastic, these toys often show little signs of wear and are still in good working condition. When these perfectly usable toys are thrown out, they become waste in a landfill, take up a lot of space, and do not biodegrade. Hand in hand with this unnecessary waste is the fact that many children throughout the united states, who could benefit from these toys, go without them. Toys can be important to a child's development and can help with creativity and imagination.
