While the Hope Floats Foundation (HFF) has an inspiring, collaborative, and life-changing mission, it also has a solid operational basis. Many times non-profit organizations are loosely organized without a true north. The HFF founder, Cindy Tonnesen, breathed SPIRIT into HFF with her vision and passion. The current HFF Board Director, Dave Tonnesen, has led the board and committees into STRUCTURE with the EOS organizational system. Our Executive Director, Kristin Mabrouk, amazes us with her creativity, drive, and use of STORIES to keep us motivated. It is an honor to be a part of the Hope Floats Foundation. Hope Floats Foundation is a beacon of opportunity for children and families who might otherwise not have access to the life-changing benefits of competitive swimming. This organization offers scholarships that enable young people from underrepresented communities to engage in swimming lessons, swim teams, and other aquatic activities that they would typically be unable to afford.
One of the most significant positive impacts of this organization is its role in fostering confidence and resilience in children. Swimming, being a life skill and an endurance sport, builds both physical and mental strength. Through these scholarships, children not only gain the ability to swim but also develop discipline, goal-setting, and self-esteem, all of which translate into broader life skills. These lessons stay with them well beyond the pool.
Hope Floats has a profound ripple effect on the communities it serves. By making swimming more accessible, it reduces inequalities in access to sports and physical activity. In many communities, especially those with limited resources, opportunities to engage in organized sports are scarce. This organization helps bridge that gap, creating a more equitable environment where children from all backgrounds can experience the joys and health benefits of swimming. It fosters a sense of unity as these children come together, regardless of their socioeconomic status, to participate in team activities and local competitions.
Hope Floats truly makes a difference, one swimmer at a time.
