Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals, Human Services, Public & Societal Benefit
Mission: The mission of the Pet Prevent a Litter (PALs) is to help end pet overpopulation and pet homelessness in central Texas. Established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 1990, we subsidize spay/neuter vouchers for pets of those who require financial assistance
Results: PALS began its very own Mobile Animal Surgical Hospital (MASH). We are currently in Phase I which is spay/neuter of feral cats in specified neighborhoods of San Marcos Texas. Phase II and phase III will include cats, then also dogs with guardians. This is our ultimate dream, to have no more homeless animals and to provide sterilization services to everyones's pet. We have also grown our other programs, this year we have distributed more spay/neuter vouchers than in any previous year. A grant has allowed us to provide vaccinations for those cases where the guardian could not afford even that small fee.
Target demographics: PALS service area includes the following Central Texas counties: Hays, Guadalupe, Caldwell, and northern Comal. We help individuals and families fix their pets, focusing on the low-income and socio-economically challenged population.
Direct beneficiaries per year: In 2010 PALS has distributed over 1500 spay/neuter vouchers. Our TNRM (trap-neuter-return-maintain) group has helped another 400 feral cats live better lives through spay/neuter and colony maintainance.
Programs: PALS programs include: *Free spay/neuter vouchers *Pet Food Pantry *Education *TNRM (trap, neuter, return, maintain of feral cats) *MASH (Mobile Animal Surgical Hospital for spay/neuter--new this year for feral cats)
