I cannot speak highly enough about this organization. HERO is different from other volunteer programs in that you are not just a cog in the wheel that can be replaced by another. With HERO, the difference you make is at a deeper level with higher meaning. The mentor-mentee relationship is built around trust, and commitment to one another is essential. Over time, the mentorship can positively influence a child's behavior, attitude, confidence, grades, and family life. Volunteering at HERO, you are helping a child meet his or her full potential, which is truly life-changing. A surprise from mentoring has been the amount I've grown alongside my mentee; I did not expect the program to influence my behavior as much as it has. Thank You!

Simply THE BEST... What they do for children and families and the WAYS that they show that they appreciate their volunteers... very genuine. HERO is among my top three favorite non-profits to work with. One really feels that he/she is making a difference. We are not just doing "busy work One of the things that I like about HERO is the amount of community support it has. The other thing I like is the fact that although the executive director is Harvard educated, she is 100% approachable, likeable and down to earth and works hard. I encourage any one who is looking for a fabulous cause, consider HERO for Children, there is ALWAYS a need! Wonderful down payment on investing in a child's future. Also of note, is that I have three children, my two daughters who are 7 and 10 have accompanied me on some occasions when I work with HERO children. My children are also benefactors of seeing how volunteers can have a meaningful impact on these children. Seeing some of the families that I work with has instilled a greater sense of appreciation as well as a greater desire to serve others, so the benefit works both ways.

I've been working with this organization for over 5 years now, and have always been amazed by the work this organization does. These children are so appreciative for the work and dedication of the staff and volunteers. It's been amazing to see some of these kids grow up and set new goals for their futures.

I think GOD each time I think of HERO for Children. I met the gentlemen who started this organization along with Donna & Nadia many years ago. They received me and the children from Augusta, GA with open arms to attend their week-long summer camp. Not only has HERO offered a positive mentoring program, but they've made a serious impact in the lives of the children they serve. HERO has provided toys, gift cards, food, & Christmas party decor for children in Augusta, GA for many years. Each year, I'm not certain if we are going to have a Christmas party but HERO continues to come through for us in a huge way ! They are truly an organization that continue to make a huge impact in the Atlanta, Augusta, Athens, Albany, & Savannah communities.
HIGH FIVE to HERO for Children :)

In the early HERO days, I got involved by taking photos for the organization and volunteering with the kids. I was so taken by the organization's staff that I joined many of them at a camp for children that are affected by HIV. The impact on the children is incredible, and without HERO, they would not have had the chance to attend a camp. HERO continues to identify the needs of children affected by HIV and addresses them without stigma or disenfranchisement. Even after relocating across the country, I continue to keep in touch with some of those who I met years ago, as we have like values and HERO continues to keep me up to date with their thorough newsletters and activities.

I was introduced to this organization 6 years ago as a volunteer for their annual HERO for a Day event and was instantly intrigued by the work that this organization did for affected and infected children of HIV. I subsequently became a SuperHERO mentor and was matched with a kid that was 13 1/2 at the time. He is now 18 years old and has grown into a great young man. This organization has assisted in getting him tutoring, and offered him experiences that he would have never been able to do in the absence of this organization!! It truly takes a village to raise a child and I wholeheartedly support this organization!!!!!!!!!!!!
