To Whom It May ConcernMemoires of a Daughter,POA and legal representative for her elderly motherOver a period of 7 1/2-years I struggled to be responsible for my mother’s financial, legal and medical matters. I was also designated as the representative of her Will. My father died in 2010. While he was alive, he kept track of matters and kept everything under control in the household for he and my mother. After his death, Mom’s savings disappeared rapidly, and she had nothing to show for where the funds were spent. The water bill was delinquent, and a shut-off notice was issued. It became very apparent to me that mom was not being accountable and responsible for her finances and actions. Mom was diagnosed with dementia.During this time, I lived on the island of Hawaii and mom lived on the island of Oahu. Over an extended period and living on a different island, I struggled with her legalities, medical, family relationships and my own emotions and to be a good representative for mom and to take care of her financial, legal and medical matters. By the grace of God, I was relieved to find an ethical third party, “The Caregiver Foundation of Hawaii” (Gary & Masako Powell), to take care of receiving mom’s incoming funds and to be responsible for paying her bills. This was a great help! Now mom no longer had non-responsible family and non-family members driving her to the bank, cleaning out her funds, writing blank checks to themselves and using mom’s credit cards. It also was a way for no fingers to be pointed at me, to say that I had my hands on her money. I had no access to mom’s custodial account managed on her behalf by The Caregiver Foundation (TCGF) of Hawaii. It also ensured an ethical way to make sure mom’s bills were paid, so she would not lose her home, house & life insurance, property, etc. After mom’s bills were paid with the monthly income she was receiving each month, TCGF provided her with $1,000 cash spending money each month, which is what she had left to spend after all the household bills, and property insurance, taxes and miscellaneous monthly bills are paid. Prior to TCGF managing mom’s financial affairs, freeloaders that she was surrounded with were spending between $2,000 - $3,000 additional monies each month.TCGF managed mom’s financial affairs and relived me of the burden and stress. They were professional, accountable and easy to communicate with. Every 3-months a detailed account report of all income and transactions was prepared and sent to me. When property tax assessments were raised, and the homeowner’s property insurance increased by $200 the following year, TCGF quickly contacted me and brought to my attention the increase, which I was able to contact the Real Property Tax Division to determine the substantial increase was due to an increase in the Real Property Assessment.TCGF is a live person, reviewing every detail and paying all incoming expenses and monthly bills I appreciate the attention to detail on an individual basis that TCGF provided. Mom passed away in 2017. TCGF was compassionate and stayed with me and provided their service and support, to help ensure mom’s financial affairs were ended, legally and on sound ground. I am grateful to TCGF for their professional service, care, compassion and friendship that helped me bring a respectful, responsible and honorable closure to both my parent’s lives and their legacy. TCGF is experienced in dealing with and providing services for all aspects of end-of-life affairs.Thank you to the TCGF for helping me. You provided me with strength, support and guidance during a time of most need.Mahalo and Best Wishes to The Caregiver Foundation of Hawaii. God Bless them for the people they assist through difficult times.Spoken from My Heart With Warmest Aloha & Sincere Appreciation,Theresa Takiue

Our organization, Lou's Quality Home Health Care Services has been in collaboration with The Caregiver Foundation for several years. We, our team of nursing assistants have provided nursing care to some of the clients or patients of The Caregiver Foundation. I saw it firsthand the professionalism of the staff, led by the CEO, Mr. Gary Powell, Mrs. Masako Powell, the Care Coordinators, Alena, Curtis and others l in dealing with the clients and their families. The staff shows their outmost concern for the wellbeing of the clients or patients. The Caregiver Foundation staff visits the clients regularly either in the home or in the facilities to ensure their nursing or other needs are met. The I recommend The Caregiver Foundation to everyone that needs assistance in numerous facets, either nursing, financial or help navigate the complicated health care needs. Thank you for the opportunity to work with The Caregiver Foundation.
The Caregiver Foundation has been an inspiration to me, as I am also in the business of offering programs to care for seniors and those with disabilities on Oahu. The work that the Caregiver Foundation is far-reaching, assisting those with no family support plan their care needs and financial security, as well as assisting families of those in need. They assist with housing needs, financial needs, and any care needs that seniors and those with disabilities have. The Caregiver Foundation needs to be recognized as leaders in the arena offering care and assistance to those in need in Hawaii.
As a health care professional and a health care provider , I have seen the Care Giver Foundation provide financial help to the clients when their financial resources run dry or are exhausted. The team finds ways , places where the client can get the best nursing care possible. They look for good placements for the clients when the client needs to go to a Foster Care Home or ARCH, or Care Home .
The staff follow up and does visits to make sure the client is getting the health care that they deserve.

I cannot give enough praise to Gary Powell and the work of the Caregiver Foundation. Gary was a family friend for many years prior to me having to avail myself of his services upon the death of father, my last surviving parent in late 2019. As the executor to my parents’ estate, the coronavirus pandemic hampered me from traveling back and forth from the mainland to the islands to personally attend to affairs. The Caregiver Foundation promptly stepped in to attend to the disposition of household and personal items. Gary also arranged for a contractor to renovate the home and update it to modern standards. Their efforts are greatly appreciated and allowed me to focus on the emotional aspects of the grieving process.
