I have donated to many rescues and volunteered at one. Smokey Chestnut is by far one of the most thoughtful and appreciative rescues out there. Last year I donated a small amount because of a story that ran on a local news station. Soon after, I received a handwritten thank you on a beautiful card with a thank you postage stamp. When my husband and I visited the farm to drop off used goods for a fundraiser, we were treated to a tour of their beautiful rescue and treated with appreciation and friendliness. Both Heidi, Bob, a volunteer and I think a grandchild were beyond welcoming. We, soon after, began donating monthly. A beautiful calendar was sent to monthly donors at Christmas and are also kept in the loop about the rescue.
Recently, during frigid temperatures, Heidi posted that they were able to give the animals a little extra food for warmth because of donors. I expected the post to be a plea for more donations which would have been fine. Instead, her post warmed my heart, making
us feel like we already had helped. I cannot say enough about the intelligence and care this rescue exudes. Fundraisers are thoughtful and extremely well executed. These splendid people excel in every possible aspect. They are a blessing to be a part of.
Heidi and Bob work tirelessly to provide the most comfortable and loving support for their rescue animals. They provide a stay-for-life home for many who were saved from abuse, neglect, or kill pens. Now, these rescue animals thrive and enjoy happy lives. The Smokey Chestnut Farm team (including devoted volunteers) work hard to care for the animals and the property, as well as host great events open to the public to enable visitors the opportunity to share a connection with such beautiful creatures.
