Have adopted from and volunteered with this very caring no-kill shelter. In addition to operating a shelter, they also provide assistance to indigent animal "parents" and to low-income animals in need of veterinary services. This organization is truly community-minded. (And takes the "no-kill" part seriously, unlike some.)
AALOC is a private non-profit NO-KILL animal rescue. Each pet that is brought to them is cared for until it can be adopted. They also do community education on pet population and control, offer vouchers for low-cost spay and neuters and help low-income, elderly and disabled people who have pet problems. They also take on special challenges: Recently a dog was found wandering the streets and was taken in by a woman. It was discovered that someone had poured caustic liquid and caused his skin to burn and peel off. Animal Assistance League of Orange County rallied to locate specialists to conduct surgery and dermatologists to treat his skin. Then AALOC then held fund raisers to cover the medical costs. Amazingly, the dog is doing much better and is in a safe a loving home. This is but just one example of the outstanding work they do at AALOC and most of the work is done by unpaid volunteers. Check out their website to find a new pet or find out how you can volunteer or help.
