Unfortunately many people, like the one who wrote this review, don't know the difference between our great NO-KILL non-profit and the County-operated facility when they post negative comments. It's obvious to anyone who actually knows our shelter that this negative review is referring to the issues at the County-operated facility which have been upsetting many; they clearly don't apply to our shelter. People who accuse need to have accurate facts and know whom they are talking about before spreading such misinformation which they frequently obtain from inflammatory social media posts. It does no good to the very animals they claim to care so much about when they wrongly accuse a non-profit doing such good across the region. This Board member (also an unpaid volunteer) is of this non-profit, NOT the Board of County Commissioners for Sumter (elected & paid by taxpayers).
YOUR Humane Society SPCA is open to the public, relies on great volunteers and supporters and has been a NO-KILL organization for our entire existence of 37 years. We achieve our mission through the support of the community who want to be part of the solution. We help ALL types of animals in need across Sumter County and beyond. We have the highest level of transparency with a GuideStar Platinum Seal. We invite the public to come by and take a tour and see for themselves. Get involved and make a difference. You won't be disappointed. "Save a Life! Adopt-Donate-Volunteer!"

I have not only volunteered at The Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc. for over 11 years as a foster home for puppies, kittens and equines, as a fundraiser and Board member, but have also adopted a donkey, a ram & a cat over the years.
I have witnessed the commitment and devotion of our staff, volunteers and Board as the organization has grown in the last 35 years it has existed. I look forward to see it proudly continue to grow with more great achievements to come! I encourage anyone to come visit the shelter for themselves, meet the people and see how the animals are cared for. Be your own judge but you won't regret it. I haven't!
