Mission: Hui o Laka illuminates, celebrates, and nurtures the essence of Kokee, engaging all in a spirit of appreciation and service. (Kokee is the forested mountain area of Kauai encompassed by Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Parks).
Results: In 2011, Hui o Laka heads towards completion of renovations to the Kokee CCC Camp, a 1935 complex of 11 buildings that were abandonned after a 1982 hurricane. In addition, park trails and roadsides have been improved by Hui o Laka volunteers, and two annual festival intrigue and inform visitors.
Target demographics: Hui o Laka serves EVERYONE who loves and visits Kauai's upland parks, targeting youth groups and their families as well as visitors for volunteer participation.
