Animal-Kind International

Animal-Kind International continues to do incredible work for animals in some of the most challenging circumstances around the world. I am confident that my donations to AKI go directly to support animal welfare. I am especially impressed by AKI’s Africa-Based Animal Welfare Grant Program that annually funds a wide range of important animal welfare projects in countries throughout Africa. Animal-Kind International focuses 100% on helping animals—this work inspires me and gives me hope for the future.

If all non-profits were as focused and well-run as AKI, the world would be a much better place with a lot fewer problems. I have followed it for 13 years, initially as a board member and for the past several years as an interested member of the public. AKI always does a great job of identifying appropriate organizations, getting resources to them, helping them achieve their goals and reach more donors, and reporting on the use of funds and the animals helped. My only question is why university management classes don't use AKI as a case study of a successful, effective, small non-profit.

I met AKI founder Karen Menczer over 10 years ago when I was working with an animal advocacy organization here in New Mexico. I was immediately impressed with what she and AKI were doing - supporting humane education and animal care in places where those efforts were rare or even non-existent. Over the years, I have become a dedicated monthly supporter, and I often give AKI gifts "in memory of" or "in honor of" friends/family. I know that every penny of each donation goes to the worthy organizations AKI supports. If you read Karen's amazing newsletters, you will realize that AKI is a light in a grateful world that desperately needs it.

I have known Karen Menzer, founder and director of Animal-Kind International, for almost ten years. Her dedication to animal welfare around the world, especially Africa, is a constant inspiration to myself and others. She is a non-stop energy in her mission to save needy animals and fund the people helping to save them. She was instrumental in keeping Helping Hands for Hounds of Honduras afloat and operational rescuing, sterilizing and finding homes for abandoned dogs while educating the local population about humane treatment of pets. I have supported the work of Animal-Kind International for many years. As a monthly donor I know that 100% of my donations are going to help animals in great need throughout the world. I’m especially impressed by the innovative projects that AKI is helping to fund in many countries throughout Africa.

Year after year I have donated to AKI and Karen, because I know what an exceptional non profit organization AKI has proved to be. AKI provides funds to at least 7 groups in 6 countries in Africa and also Honduras, Armenia and Jamaica.
The funds are used for rescue, spay/neuter, food, medical care, teaching proper care of animals especially to children and adoption.
Thousands of animals, which include dogs, cats, donkeys and horses have benefited over the years from this exceptional non profit!
I am very impressed with the funds provided to the many groups, but I get very excited when I see how the children are taught with coloring books and the very popular Summer camp which is happening again this year after being canceled during Covid.

Animal-Kind International is, hands-down, one of the most effective nonprofits I've ever donated to or worked with. ALL funds raised go to animal care NGOs around the world. In addition to be well-vetted, these groups are matched with volunteer mentors to assist with social media, grant writing, etc. This is truly grassroots support for very small organizations providing care and shelter to companion and working animals in countries with very little tradition of compassion for animals. AKI helps these NGOs grow and strengthen both financially and in community support.

Animal Kind International, powered by Karen Menczer, is unbelievably amazing, reaching out to communities all over the developing world, including places where survival is a challenge for human beings, not to mention animals. Sauvons nos Animaux in Bukavu, eastern DRC, is only one such example (having worked there myself many times, I cannot believe AKI is having a positive impact on the community's dogs which are largely neglected). When I moved to Arusha, Tanzania, many years ago and met up with Mbwa wa Afrika in Usa River, I realized how much they could benefit from AKI's assistance, and contacted Karen about the excellent work they were doing. While on an assignment in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Karen travelled to Arusha for the weekend, and spent two days with MwA, and was quickly convinced the organization was a worthy cause. AKI and MwA have worked together ever since, even to the extent of rescuing a dog which was at risk of being killed when found hanging around a US military base in Niger (one of the harshest of the 24 countries in which I've worked in Africa). There is no cause more worthy of your support than AKI!!!!

I discovered AKI through interviewing it's founder, Karen Menczer. I was so impressed by her due diligence and personal involvement with every one of the group's grantees that they have become one of my top charities. Few organizations do this difficult work overseas and even fewer are so well run.

I learned how cruel it is to keep a dog tied up by a chain in a yard with no contact with other dogs. No freedom to at least be taken for neighborhood walks, no real interaction with people or other creatures, i saw the effect of this life on a dog we rescued from a shelter who was kept like this for yeaes until someone rescued her and brought her to a shelter. We met her through my wife's work with rhe shelter dogs and took it upon ourselves to rehabilitate her. She was reactive and scared at first but in a few months she got to trust us and she came to love us as much as we loved her. I read about Animal Kind International rescuing confined dogs and other animals as well as other kinds of rescues of other animals to ease their suffering and give them better lives. I learned that every cent donated goes directly to better animal living conditions, no money is spent on administrative fees ir charges. These are great and in many cases brave people doing their best to help poor animals. A great and important organization.

Animal-Kind International does so many good Samaritarian deeds and through Karen's passion, their amazing acts are far reaching. I was totally overwhelmed when AKI actually helped a township dog and her owner here at the coast in Namibia. I remain in awe of their hard work and dedication to help all animals, just about anywhere on the globe. THANK YOU AKI

That I have had the opportunity to volunteer at the USPCA in Uganda has been my life's greatest pleasure. The work AKI does helps the world's most vulnerable domestic animals, places where there is no other help, and they take no administration costs whatsover. I could not recommend AKI more highly.

I found about Animal Kind Internacional about one year ago when i was at home because of the pandemic and was searching about good and trustworthy nonprofit organizations that help animals in need so i help them with small donations and i found this amazing organization that help alot of animals in very poor countrys all around the world.
Since then, they are one of the nonprofit organizations where i make a donation almost every mount and read all of their posts and newsletters.

Few charities would be so easy for me to rate so highly. Having worked at an international dog rescue for 3.5 years, I saw firsthand the devastating conditions of these animals. AKI was such a God-send in regards to providing us with support so that we could feed, house and medicate the animals. AKI's help was one of the few ways we had to make a difference for canines who had very heartbreaking stories. Without them, we would have been lost. They are dedicated, honest and committed. AKI is the best!

I chose to donate monthly to SAUVONS NOS ANIMAUX / RDC through Animal Kind International because thanks to their excellent standing and practices I am sure that everything directly profits to the wonderful shelter in Bukavu. Paterne Huston B. who runs the shelter does an endless work of love with very little funding, not only taking care of animals in need but also educating the young.

I have had a positive experience with AKI and its founder Karen since it started. Karen is always helpful in putting people coming to Honduras in contact with me to help walk, feed, and bathe the dogs and clean the shelter here at Helping Hands for Hounds of Honduras. Karen is also wonderful at putting her donors in contact with myself and other partners to help get educational material, medicines, and other supplies to help with needy animals and to educate other people about the plight of animals around the world. For more than a dozen years, Animal-Kind International has supported Helping Hands for Hounds of Honduras with money for food, medicine, surgery, construction of pens, and caretakers for dozens of injured and abused animals rescued off the streets of Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Besides this economic help, Karen Menczer has always been available to give emocional support and answer questions.

AKI has been doing amazing work for years, I first learned about them through a mutual friend who is also an animal lover. I respect the hard work that AKI to not only help animals in need but to teach kindness to animals.

Since 2009, I have volunteered with animals (both domestic and wild) at 17 different places around the world and these experiences have given me knowledge and experience about what makes a good animal welfare organization. Using what I have learned and observed, along with following Animal Kind International's work for 5+ years, I can say it is a excellent organization. In addition to the fact that AKI gives away 100% of its donations, I appreciate their transparency. The organization has precisely detailed end of the year reports, their web page is very thorough and they also post frequent written, photographic and video updates on their Facebook page. The founder's career takes her to several of the countries that receive funding, so during her free time at these places she visits the organizations' offices and sites to see their work. AKI plans to increase its aid to other domestic animal groups in Africa and they are doing this in an organized, methodical and logical manner with input from its supporters.
When it comes to animal welfare, a specific area of interest to me is education, especially to children. I love that several of the African groups helped by AKI use their money to teach young people humane education, both in class and on field trips. These children can then share their knowledge with family, friends and community members creating a ripple effect that will slowly, but surely change how people view and treat animals.

AKI and Karen Menczer are my rock. Over the last several years, HHHH has counted on AKI to pay for spay/neuter surgeries, medicines and food for dozens of abandoned and injured strays. I know that all donations they receive go directly to help needy animals around the world in the poorest places.

AKI is a truly amazing animal organization that does what it says. It supports local animal organizations that use donor funds to support dogs, cats and donkeys that are work donkeys. Funds help in spay and neuter clinics, donkey clinics to teach local citizens to use better gear for the donkeys, food, vetinary bills, shelter operation and just as important is Humane education. Teaching children what it means, in areas that do not treat animals well, provides hope that all the work AKI and other organizations does will perpetuate. Already people are adopting animals in areas that wasn't done, picking up phones to report animals in trouble and even elders of communities approving the assistance. The money goes 100% to the organizations. Theres no high paid CEO's or personnel. It's operated by volunteers. The organizations the money goes to are required to report back. AKI then sends out reports and blogs more than any animal organization that I've donated to and keeps donors informed. The one thing I like most is that Karen Menser, is on site visiting these organizations as part of her world wide travels with her environmental job and takes advantage of checking on the partners to see first had they are doing as they say. I rate them 5++++++++.

I’ve been following this group for quite a while now. They have a very reasoned approach to what they can do as they don’t want to let anyone down. At the same time, they’ve been gradually and carefully growing their services so that more grassroots organizations can get support for their animal welfare initiatives. AKI also constantly keeps all their supporters up-to-date with their operations and are interested in supporters’ input. I delight in knowing how much good they do where good needs to be done! It is the most righteous animal welfare non-profit I know of! I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I'm so happy to know there is an organization so effective at the grass-roots level! It is great to get stories and accomplishments with the Director on the ground while visiting the local facilities, volunteers and animals.. The volunteers do so much to stretch donations to help as many animals as they can, often under extremely difficult conditions.

There are very few organizations that donate 100% of your donation. There are probably even fewer that fit in visiting these organizations around their other job.
I personally know one of the shelters that are supported by Animal Kind and know how desperately they rely on this income, to be able to continue to help the animals in some of the poorest countries there are. Countries that poverty and disease are rife and people (often children) still die of Rabies
Without our only shelter the only option for the dogs and cats, is a life scavenging on the streets, feared by many and often sent away, sometimes violently, When a bite or a scratch is a threat to your life or to your child, it is hard to be compassionate.
I and all who help, at every shelter, say thank you AKI. Without your support the world would be a far worse place. Also a mega thank you from all the animals that have been rescued, treated, and found homes.

Animal-Kind International absolutely do what they for animals in need. I know this for a fact, because the Chair of said foundation came all the way to my country, the Republic of Suriname (South America) to observe and see where AKI could help. Since then we have been able to execute spay/neuter projects and buy food for the stray animals we feed on a daily basis. We also have been able to buy a meat grinder, with which we grind the meat we get donated from local companies. Every day we cook good food for the animals. They are a non profit with a difference. They send 100 recievables to beneficiary organizations. Their presence is also in the deprived west African countries

Every single penny that is contributed goes toward the care of neglected/abused animals in countries that lack the financial infrastructure to satisfy that need. Without AKI, these animals lives would be largely ignored. Funds for educating the local populations is money also well spent.

As a member of an animal welfare ngo. in the Caribbean, I have watched the work of AKI and fully support this org. They are helping those that cannot speak for themselves, and there can be no greater calling than this.

When even human rights are compromised in many developing countries, Animal-Kind has helped people with compassion help 'those with no voice'...and this starts the process of respecting human rights as well. I know this because I am a Returned peace Corps Volunteer, and AKI has helped me meet humane activists in many countries. I've seen their good work!

We have been working with AKI for several years now to help with stray dogs of Bosnia. We know how much effort goes into their operations and every donation will go to the right hands. Thanks Karen and AKI for everything you for those who have no voice.

Everything I have seen and read about this organization says it is wonderful. I am thankful that they support animal caregivers all over the world. It is never enough because the need is so great, but they do what they can. They provide plenty of pictures of animals before and after and show how money is being used. AKI fills a huge gap for animal welfare organizations in poor countries. There are so few foundations and other grant making organizations that support animal welfare outside the US, Canada, EU, Australia. We help fill that funding gap (although so much more money is needed than what we are able to raise so far). I'm proud that we have such great relationships with all our partner organizations, as well as with other animal welfare orgs in poor countries, so we are able to let donors know just what their donations are doing, and we're helping some very worthy organizations that are not partners [yet!] to become stronger.

The nonprofit that I run has partnered with AKI for several years in an effort to get veterinary supplies to animals in need around the globe. Karen works tirelessly to deliver these supplies, often traveling to remote areas herself to be sure that veterinary equipment, medications, syringes, suture material, etc all make it to their destination. I'm always so impressed with how much the organizations in these poor countries can do with so little money. The people who work for and volunteer for them are so dedicated, I'm happy to support them.

I first learned about Animal-Kind International (AKI) when I traveled to Yerevan, Armenia for work and was appalled and saddened by the treatment and attitude towards street dogs. In doing a search to try to find if there was a charity or shelter in Yerevan that I could donate to, I came across AKI and learned of their financial support of the country's only animal shelter. From my very first contact with Karen Menczer, I felt that this organization was quite different than other non-profits and exceptional in its dedication and service. The difference lies in the personal contact with donors and close familiarity of partner organizations and the devotion to transparency as also expected in its partner organizations. It is AKI's tireless campaigning for its cause and its always evolving creative communications, such as putting a face to the names of partner organizations through the AKI website and Facebook, that is also remarkable. I admire the commitment and authenticity of AKI and its director, Karen Menczer.

I have known Karen Menczer, the founder of Animal-Kind International since we were in college together. I have watched her unwavering dedication to animals in need around the world. Stories she has humbly shared of her life in Uganda and of the animals that she has fed, spayed and neutered as well as educating countless community members on how to care, love and respect dogs, cats and farm animals alike. Animals that would have never had a chance of survival are now safe, healthy and loved because of years of commitment that Karen has lovingly and fiercely put into this project on their behalf.

I greatly admire the work of Animal Kind International and Karen Menzer. This organization's commitment to service has helped countless dogs and the communities where they live. It is heartwarming to see before and after pictures of AKI's success stories where there are plenty of happy dogs and smiling faces. I love that all of the money they get goes directly to helping animals and gratified to see such a wide network of volunteers worldwide who help get the work done. It's great to see a wonderful organization doing a great job.

A very close friend is the hand behind Helping Hands for Hounds of Honduras and over the years I have seen her struggle to maintain her shelter with inadequate funds. What a difference ANIMAL-KIND INTER-
NATIONAL has made to her efforts to rescue street dogs, give them good care with veterinary assistance and maintain them in the only available animal shelter in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. AKI has helped in every way, providing food, medications, surgery (both emergency and sterilization), veterinary and shelter care supplies, and support. And I know personally that every cent of every donation goes directly to AKI´s projects. To me, Karen Menczer and Sherry (Pilar) Thorn are angels, direct descendants of Saint Francis of Assisi, and the world is a better place for their work. Thank you, ANIMAL-KIND INTERNATIONAL and Karen, for your invaluable contributions!

I am proud to be founder and director of Animal-Kind International. From my insider's view, I know that we are honest and transparent with our donors and our partners, that we are small, yet powerful, that we use all donor money for ONLY animal welfare purposes (no overhead, every penny raised goes to our partner organizations), and that we fund the best animal welfare organizations in developing countries--and we will continue to do this until our funds are no longer needed!

AKI is Always involved and interested in the whereabouts of the animals in Bosnia. They assist with sending material and financial donations. We are happy and proud to be one of their members.

There are not many organizations out there that can hand on heart say 100% of donations go directly to the ground. This is one of them and an very honored to be part of it...

I've visited Uganda Africa many times and I have witnessed the ongoing suffering of stray animals/street dogs in Uganda. I have been donating to the Uganda SPCA and I deeply appreciate the support they receive from Animal Kind International. I will always support AKI as they strive to make the world a better place for animals.

I've been hugely impressed with Animal-Kind Int'l for quite some time.

I know the founder (Karen) personally and can assure you of her integrity and the legitimacy of this organization. It's been a labor of love for her and she's extremely dedicated to it -- at the same time she's an excellent organizer with great connections so it all runs very efficiently. It's established and has a great track record.

What makes this group different from many others is that 100% of your donation goes directly towards helping the animals. I was impressed when promptly after my donation, I received a personal thank you. Animal-Kind International assists many small, relatively unknown rescue groups & often these shelters/clinics are the only ones in that particular country. In the AKI newsletters, I enjoy reading the recipients' thank you notes which state exactly what the money was used for. Someday I would love to visit one of the projects they support.

I am not sure how I found Animal-KIind, but Karen Menczer does a great job of publicizing groups in developing countries that need assistance. I have donated to a group in Malawi, where i served as a Peace Corps Volunteer, and with Karen's help was able to visit a forest dog sanctuary in Istanbul. Animal-kind International does a lot with very little.

I could sit here and go on about the wonderful things AKI does for animals, the countless strays they save, but we all know those stories, we've seen them most of our lives. Animals are the ones people always forget. The ones who can't speak for themselves, and so, organizations like AKI speak for them. However, what is truly special about AKI is that they speak for the animals that are the most forgotten, the ones on the outskirts of the world, in countries torn with war/conflict/poverty. In these countries, people mostly focus on the people, getting them food, shelter, water, which is understandable of course, but there is a tendency to forget that there are animals suffering in these countries too. I can't justify one life over another; a person's over an animal's, so I am really grateful for organizations like AKI who don't forget the animals in these countries like Bosnia, where I'm from, or Honduras. In Bosnia dogs are beaten, have acid thrown on them or simply shot. While many people are suffering in Bosnia after the war, this does not justify this abysmal treatment of animals. In Bosnia it is typical to hear: "Animal rights? Forget animal rights! What about human rights?!" - this alone gives you a clear picture of where things stand in post-war countries. Thank you AKI for not forgetting that animals feel pain too, regardless of where they are! You're truly amazing and the work you do is truly life-changing for these animals, and honestly, gives me hope. Thank you!

If animals in Kingston Jamaica could talk they would pick up a phone and call Karen Menczer to say THANKS FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS! And.. IF they could get visas, she would have thousands and thousands of grateful dogs, cats, goats and every other 4-legged animal at her door to hug and kiss her! Animal-Kind International is wonderful, simply wonderful....we won't forget her, ever.

A few years ago I decided I wanted to do something different for my birthday. So I asked my family to make a donation to Animal-Kind International instead of buying a traditional gift. As an animal lover, it is the best gift I have ever received to know that my family and friends' donations went to support such a worthy cause.

I have had heart warming experiences with AKI, with both their Honduras and Uganda shelters. They help an area of the world where humanity is suffering so animal life is usually lowest on the priority list. Without AKI these animal populations may be forgotten or severely underfunded.

Animal-Kind International is an awesome organization. I personally know people who donate their life to this program. I have visited Africa multiple times, and I know how important this organization is to the small villages where animals are living below the survival line. This organization deserves 10-stars.
