The Afghan Coalition has built a strong foundation for taking on the needs and challenges of our community. Our office is a reliable and safe place for community members to gain the support they needto build self-sufficient lives and make important connections. Seventy-five percent of our clients are females with limited English-speaking ability, so our translation services, advocacy and bilingual resourcematerials on health and domestic violence are critical for the community. Furthermore, our advocacy work involves intensive collaboration and networking with other agencies fromaround the Bay Area to enhance the delivery of services and access to culturally appropriate services. To this end,we co-facilitate the Health Leadership Consortium, bringing together representatives from major health andhuman service providers, including representatives from Kaiser Permanente, Palo Alto Medical Foundationand others to improve the accessibility and cultural responsiveness of health services, improve coordination of services to underserved communities, and improve communication between providers and the health advocates.
