I'm only part-way through the adoption process (PPE is pending for later this week!) but want to share my positive experience thus far. Ali and Amy are the primary people who you will interface with to find appropriate horses who may be matches. They are extremely transparent as far as explaining what a horse has currently done, whether it raced, what any special circumstances may have been, and sharing details about any prior lay-ups it might have had. They are also happy to show you the horse on the lunge, under saddle, and talk through how the horse is being worked. My best advice for a potential adopter is to be honest about what you're really looking for in your next partner, and also be honest with yourself about your own riding abilities and what types of personalities work the best with you.
When I met Ali at the PA location, I just thought it was an Off Track restart program. When I went to look at a horse she had available that met my needs, I learned it was much more. Ali was talking with me about what I was looking for showing me several that would meet my needs - when they were finished with their training as well as the one I came to see. She was also discussing with their vet a permanent resident that was having intermittent issues. She was adamant the vet do some X-rays even tho the issue wasn’t presenting at the moment. Also after she showed me the horse I was there to see, she eased my concerns about finding the right horse bc when they come my house they are permanent residents. And it has to be the right fit. So the more we talked the more it was just the right situation for both of us. Ali has been a pleasure ave so has my new horse.
