We adopted Ella from BROOD in 2023 and are so grateful for this organization! The adoption process was very thorough. They were transparent about Ella's behaviors and needs, so there were no surprises. The foster parents provided a lot of information as well and were very friendly during the meet and greet with our other dog. We are so thankful we found BROOD and added Ella to our family. Would love to adopt from BROOD again the future!
I adopted my first dog from BROOD back in 2000. Since 2010 I have fostered over 60 dogs for BROOD and transported many more. The organization takes great care to ensure that its dogs find adoptive families that are a good fit, and follows up with the adopters once the dog is placed. It is a great group to adopt from and to volunteer for.
We got our Rosie from BROOD and it was a wonderful experience. Our adoption coordinator told us all about Rosie before we met her and her foster mom gave us more information when we went to meet her. We took her home that very day. They take such good care of the hounds in their care with vet visits and placing them in caring foster homes to evaluate their personalities, give them love and begin training if needed.

We have been BROOD members for years because a friend had adopted several dogs from them. When we lost our last pup, we contacted BROOD to adopt another. Their volunteers were wonderful, very professional and extremely helpful. They gave us all of the information on the dog we were interested in, explaining that she had separation anxiety and experienced carsickness so that there were no surprises. We were able to take her home the same day we met her. They wanted to put her in a home fast so weren't able to schedule her spaying before we got her; they charged us an extra fee that would be refunded once we had her spayed. Our vet spayed her and we opted to let them keep the fee since they do such amazing work vetting, fostering and finding home for these hounds. I can't praise them enough.
I've been a volunteer and foster mom for BROOD since 2000. Most of my bassets have been BROOD foster fails. This organization has been dedicated to saving bassets and basset mixes for almost 30 years. I appreciate all they do!
BROOD is the most amazing group. They are constantly taking in new hounds and finding forever homes for them!
Brood is a wonderful organization. They've shared my joy, and the tough losses, too, across three of my basset hound journeys.
We adopted 2 dogs from BROOD, one in 2017 and one in 2018. Both were such wonderful experiences, we have volunteered since then. Their adoption process is rigorous but thorough and necessary, so a good home can be found for every dog. I highly recommend this rescue to anyone interested in adopting a basset or basset mix.
I have adopted 2 senior Bassets from BROOD as well as perform “virtual home visits” and foster. The care each dog gets is incredible prior to adoption - all health issues are taken care of and in certain circumstances, BROOD will help after adoption too. BROOD has an excellent adoption process and makes sure the Bassets will be going to the best homes. Each volunteer and board member has something special to bring to the table. The teamwork between everyone involved in this rescue is what makes BROOD stand out and be able to help as many dogs as they do.
I have been adopting Basset Hounds from BROOD since 2001 and have nothing but positive things to say. Each time I reached out I received a response quickly! After I applied someone came to my house to make sure it was a safe home. The foster parents were always full of information and clearly cared about the foster dog in their home!
We adopted Jelly in 2019 from Brood. All of the people that we talked with from Brood were very knowledgeable and answered our questions completely. We would definitely adopt another dog from them.
Wonderful group of volunteers rescuing Bassett hounds. Extremely organized, caring, and responsible. Clever, fun fundraisers. Hounds have the best of care and are placed with vetted adopters. This is one of the best run charities around.
Basset Rescue of Old Dominion Inc. has been and continues to be a dedicated, and loving organization in support of the rescue and wellbeing of beautiful Basset Hounds. The work they do is invaluable to the Basset Hounds they rescue, save and place in loving homes. I have supported this organization for years. The quality of care, the responsiveness to questions and requests for help and the honesty of its organizational and board members are top notch. I will continue to support Basset Rescue of Old Dominion Inc. for these reasons.
I have adopted 4 basset hounds from BROOD over the years and each dog received excellent veterinary care prior to adoption--all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested and more. It is a great feeling to adopt a dog from a rescue and make it part of your family.
We wanted a basset so we went to rescue and found BROOD --- we then welcomed Willie , the rescue had done the most wonderful job with him and after we volunteered to help Brood out --(we moved and are no longer able to help)--- what we came to realize was that there are the most devoted caring people who go above and beyond to help these wonderful hounds , every dime they raise is for the hounds , everyone who helps gets nothing in return except the pleasure and feel good feeling of knowing that the breed you love is well cared for and at last in a wonderful forever home .... best of all Brood is always there to support the adopting families . 5 stars because they did exceed our expectations of rescues.
