I’ve been using KoBoToolbox since 2019, and it has proven to be an invaluable tool for data collection, especially in low-resource settings. The platform’s flexibility and open-source nature allow for easy customization and handling of complex survey forms. KoBoToolbox’s integration with XLSForm enables advanced form creation with skip logic and validations. As a certified trainer, I’ve seen firsthand how it empowers local INGO and UN staff to implement effective data collection strategies. The supportive community and offline capabilities make it a reliable choice for field data collection, contributing to better data-driven decisions.
There are lots of data collection out there, Kobotoolbox is one of them with lots of advantages compare to others. It is free if you don't need more than 5000 submissions each months, otherwise they have offer affordable plans to support humanitarian organization. It has lot of advantages in the data collection either one time survey or case management with an active community members to help and support each other. It also has a broad API back group to make your life easier during and after that collection or integrate your form with any other needed services such as Power Automate. If you need a data collection tool for humanitarian aid, KoboToolBox would be my first choice, great job and please continue to support humanitarian aid

Its user-friendly interface and offline capabilities make it accessible even in areas with limited connectivity. The platform has significantly enhanced our ability to gather accurate data, informing better decision-making and program implementation. KoboToolbox's commitment to supporting social impact organizations worldwide is truly commendable.
KoboToolbox is a great tool to data collect, it easy to use and is available to use in differents context. It is a a tool for emancipation by collecting information aimed at creating evidence for empowerment, education, social awareness and many other issues.
After discovering KoboToolbox five years ago, I was immediately impressed by their robust product—and even more so upon learning it's completely free and managed by a non-profit organization. This rare combination sparked my interest beyond mere product usage.
I began following KoboToolbox across all social platforms, fascinated by their vision, mission, and operational model. In the IT sector, it's uncommon to find non-profits delivering such high-quality solutions while maintaining their values.
My admiration eventually led me to join their Ambassador program in 2024. The organization provided comprehensive training through three online courses, equipping me to fulfill my role: spreading awareness about KoboToolbox, supporting other users, and continually developing my data skills.
This journey from user to ambassador exemplifies why I believe in KoboToolbox's approach to democratizing data collection tools.
Kobo is the most useful tool for data collection and data management activities especially in grassroot level. The best thing I like in Kobo is that it can create a form by ourself, even we are not in special role for developing applications, and we can manage our data which have submitted.
I highly recommend that Kobo is the best tool among other data collection tools for Non profit organisation.
One thing is that, in my opinion, the security and the data protecton concerned are need to be ensured for all user.
Thanks Kobo

FiRSTLY, in the year 2021 during COVID pandemic, My team of 3 and I in UNHCR, Jijiga in Ethiopia learnt about Kobotoolbox from OCHA colleagues. As a team working on Comprehensive and Development Responses to a protracted refugee situation, we needed to urgently support partners and local authorities to have data for planning. We therefore learnt the user friendly Kobotoolbox and tested it for participatory assessments with the Regional State Bureau of Labour and Social Affairs and Refugee and Returnee Servjce trained host community social workers and successfully used it for Community Based Participatory Assessment data collection and analyses.Using Kobocollect deployed in tablets enabled a good representative sample, speed and accuracy of data summaries and analyses.
SECONDLY, in 2022, with Regional State Bureau if Economic Planning and Development, we again successfully used Kobotoolbox to administer a Socio Economic Assessment in refugee hosting areas of Jijiga, Ethiopia.
ADDTINALLY, in 2023 with Regional State Bureau of Finance and Refugee and Returnee Service, we deployed Kobotoolbox for online area based coordination information sharing by various partners for quick analyses and 5W planning and reporting.
My conclusion is that Kobotoolbox is an essential and handy tool for evidence generation for Humanitarian-Develipment-Peace initiatives.
