Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals, Disaster Aid, Search & Rescue Squads

Mission: To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve. To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heart-worm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us. Since 2011, we have been rescuing Great Danes. We take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wish-list, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster. “Saving one until there are none.”

I love being a volunteer for SRGDRR. Everyone is extremely helpful. The satisfaction you receive when you process a new application for a foster is so rewarding. I’m feel blessed to have this rewarding opportunity to be able to help this amazing breed find a warm and loving home

We just recently adopted a Great Dane from SRGDRR and it was the best experience we have ever had! Everyone there was so great to deal with from the adoption application getting approved to talking to the foster family. We love Brynley Aka: Violet she was everything they said and more! I would recommend SRGDRR to all my friends and family.
Thank you for making our dream come true!

I started fostering for SRGDRR in March this year. The team was so supportive throughout the process! I ended up adopting my foster boy, Archie! I later decided to volunteer with the adoptions team. What an amazing community! 10/10 recommend fostering, adopting, & volunteering with Save Rocky Great Dane Rescue & Rehab ❤️

Love this group of volunteers. Have provided many road miles transporting. Also a foster fail……twice same dog……. Once you own Great Danes it is really hard not to have multiple Danes. All volunteers are great, helpful, sometimes puppy sitters and always life time friends. Recently had to I’ve to another’s state and was worried about staying involved but nothing changed. When you volunteer you become life long friends with all the other volunteers. I love the Great Dane breed. Below is my foster fail. Meet Mandy!

I've been volunteering with this rescue for about six months, and I am so impressed with the organization and commitment of the people I work with. The rescue administrators try to give all of the dogs brought to their attention a better life, even when those dogs require extensive vetting or training. The compassion and support within the organization are exemplary. Last week SRGDRR was involved with a freedom flight of 120 dogs from TX to MI. I was lucky enough to be included as a travel coordinator for one of those dogs who is on her way to MD to a better life. The organization and coordination of such an undertaking is huge, and I was proud to be working with an organization that could work with others to help these dogs.

I've been a foster for Save Rocky. They have ALWAYS done what is best for the dogs. 99.79 percent of the time, cost is not even talked about with the foster, it's just paid for.

I know they get low on funds. Every rescue does. But they have dug into their own, individual pockets to pay for expensive surgeries, and just keep on rocking it. And yeah, my family is a foster fail family. We got Bully and DiNozzo from Save Rocky 9 years ago. They are doing awesome....

As a foster, adopter, and now VP of this rescue for the past 3 years, I cannot recommend Save Rocky the Great Dane Rescue highly enough.

Three years ago, a dog needed a ride from west Texas from a high kill shelter to its new foster home. I offered and my life has never been the same.

I have foster 52 puppies in 3 years and have volunteered my time to saving and rehoming hundreds of Great Danes and other giant breeds. As both a foster and adopter, I have always been fully supported by the rescue’s volunteers.

Save Rocky is committed to taking in dogs that other rescues won’t. We do not and will not give up. As our saying goes “Save one until there are none.”

SRGDRR in my opinion has some of the most selfless, committed, hard working group of volunteers, and they are all over the country! I joined Save Rocky first as an adopter, and quickly after as a volunteer. Having volunteered for 20yrs with local shelters in my area, I wanted to help a Great Dane rescue in particular, having rescued my own Danes for the past 12yrs and a giant love for the breed.
Following SRGDRR for about a yr, I saw the hard work and dedication and commitment to these dogs! I love that this organization will work with fosters, adopters, and volunteers all over the US!
My experience as a volunteer has been really positive with this great community. The communication and support is so nice.
As an adopter, I felt the process was smooth and seamless, friendly, fun, and quick to respond!!
My rescue pup from them was a puppy whose litter got Parvo and Save Rocky gave these little ones a chance and worked hard to save them. I was amazed at how every dog, young & old gets a fighting chance, and this is not an easy or cheap venture! We love our little dane mix!
Let's talk about those fosters! My little guy was able to come into our home across the country because of the ones working to acclimate him into a loving home and teach him how to be a great dog, exposing him to kids, cats, dogs and humans while waiting for his furever home. Thank you fosters! I see the importance of you so much more now! Unfortunately, there are just not many rescue organizations that will adopt or foster out of state. Save Rocky has an unbelievable network of volunteers and have figured out how to do it. The dogs being rescued by SRGDRR have so many behind the scenes loving humans willing to step up and advocate for them! If I could give them all my money, I would.

I am a volunteer with this rescue and I have seen first hand how amazing this team is! Everyone is there for the dogs and we all push and strive to make a difference in one way or another. I have grown to know and love everyone on the team and I couldn't imagine volunteering for a different rescue that was set out like this one.

When I became disabled, I was looking for something to fill my time that would still allow me to work with animals. Low & behold I stumbled upon a posting that Save Rocky Great Dane Rescue & Rehab needed volunteers! I previously worked in the vetting industry so that’s the area I chose to volunteer in. I happened to have a Great Dane so I was hopeful it would be a good fit. Well it ended up being a Great Fit! I am truly humbled by the amount of time & effort that every volunteer puts into this rescue. Not only is time volunteered but some also foster the dogs. SRGDRR is ran with ONLY volunteers! Amy, the president, has the biggest heart & will go above & beyond to help a dog. The rescue runs like a well oiled machine, there are different groups that handle different areas of the rescue. There is a chat started for every foster so that any questions or concerns can be addressed quickly & efficiently. Don’t think the rescue’s only for Great Danes either, we helped rescue a chihuahua the other day! SRGDRR is based out of Texas but have dogs from California to Canada to Vermont. There can be up to 200 dogs in the rescue at any given time, so far this year we have taken in 463 dogs, transferred in 88 from other rescues, adopted out 508, & spent $414,000 in medical bills & medicine. I have written just a small part of everything this rescue has accomplished, I’m so proud to say that I’m a part of it!

This rescue steps in when all hope looks lost. I have seen them pull dogs from certain death- whether that is euthanasia at a shelter or dogs that have seemingly insurmountable health care needs- Save Rocky will help them. Litter of Parvo pups? Emancipated starving strays? Unwanted left behind former family pets? All have hope and a chance at an amazing life through Save Rocky the Great Dane Rescue and Rehabilitation ! Amazing volunteers and amazing fosters that step in when needed. If you want to help a Great Dane in need, this is the organization to look to. Here’s our girl we adopted from Save Rocky. My foster has behavioral issues. SRGDRR helped find a behavioral trainer. They also went above and beyond to find a vet clinic. My foster needs a chill pack and sedation for visits and Save Rocky does not balk at this expense.
I get quick feedback and advice from them in our foster chat, each foster dog has its own chat.
Save Rocky posted my foster in breed specific and in regional Facebook groups looking for a forever home. My foster even has an Instagram and videos.

I have fostered and foster failed two dogs from this amazing rescue! I have had a horrible experience from a rescue in the past and it made me very weary to reach out to another one, but this amazing crew of people has gone above and beyond any expectation and changed my mind!
I was in over my head as a first time momma foster who was in bad shape and had 8 puppies. They welcomed me into their community with open arms, helped me every step of the way and never made me feel like I was bothering them with my millions of questions a day. They reassured any doubt in my mind that I couldn't handle it. I now have 9 week old healthy happy pups on their way to new homes and I truly couldn't have done it without these amazing people.

These volunteers not only care tremendously about the animals, but they truly care for each and every adopter, foster, and volunteer.
You can't beat this rescue!

How We Help Great Danes
Providing for the rescue and care of those who have been abandoned, neglected, and/or abused by their previous owners.

Pursuing medical treatment as necessary to return them back to good health. For example, we provide shots, spay/neuters, and microchips.

Supplying training/socialization to ensure their adaptability to new, suitable homes.

Ensuring to the best of our ability that our rescues go to people who provide secure, loving, and healthy homes.

Providing an experienced and loving foster home for our rescues.

Spending an average of $400 per Great Dane/Dane mix that enters through our doors. In order for us to continue providing the best care and vetting for our Great Danes, we rely on donations and adoptions.

How We Help People
Determine the right breed of a dog for their lifestyle.

Find a healthy and companionable Great Dane that fits their circumstances.

Find a loving replacement home for their Great Dane in the situation they can no longer care for them.

Become knowledgeable about the care and training that a giant breed requires, especially Great Danes.

Resolve their Great Dane's physical/behavioral problem.

Overcome the grief of a lost, loved pet.

Stretch their tax dollar by assuming the Great Dane burden from public shelters.

Determine if owning a dog is for you as it is a great responsibility.

Give guidance and counseling on anything else we are qualified to do so on.
