What can I say? The best dogs ever! We are on our 3rd and we are also fostering. We can not support BSR enough. They do such wonderful things for this great breed. We also help transport for them so every baby in their care can have a loving home. Please don't stop what you're doing for these babies!
Being a current board member has given me a unique view of the daily/monthly/yearly operations of this wonderful organization. Even with the constant work of the incredible volunteers, they never settle for “status quo”, and strive to improve at every turn.

After having two Boykins, we decided to adopt a rescue. Chipper was our first, and the experience with BSR was flawless. Chipper came to us missing one eye, and very shy. The foster and the regional coordinator for BSR made the transition smooth. After several months of gentle work, and the foundation built by the foster, Chipper got back to being an incredible hunting retriever. After Chip passed, BSR reached out to us with the opportunity to foster/adopt another male that had showed early hunting tendencies. They want all the dogs they rescue to be able to realize their full potential, and felt “Oats” would be a good fit, whether we adopted, or just fostered. Now, 2 years later, Oats is a bird hunting machine, never meets a stranger, two or four legged, and we are, happily, “foster failures“.
These experiences made me want to do more, so we began to volunteer more for BSR, and I recently became a board member. The people that make up this organization continue to impress and inspire me.

I am honored to have been a part of BSR for the past 14 years as a volunteer, foster, adopter, and serving as president of the board since 2015. I have watched this organization continually grow while maintaining and delivering first-rate care for our rescue dogs. Our dedicated volunteers, who will step up at a moment's notice, play an integral part in having every dog's needs met whether it is fostering, transporting, or our volunteers who help us process applications helping us make sure our dogs go to the homes best suited for each individual dog. Our incredible donors help make it possible to deliver best-in-care veterinary care for our dogs which affords us the opportunities to rehabilitate dogs with cumbersome medical needs from seizures to complex surgeries. Boykin Spaniel Rescue is first-rate organization supported by a dedicated staff and an amazing network of volunteers, patrons and donors. Serving with this organization has been one of the greatest experiences of my life.
I have been blessed with TWO wonderful Boykin Spaniel Rescue dogs!!! This organization is one of the most professional groups I have ever worked with! From taking a Boykin in, to final adoption is a HUGE process and costs money!!!! And BSR takes in many Boykins each month!!! And I have the honor to be one of their volunteers! I am also a notary and all my funds are donated to BSR. Boykins are the sweetest, most loving dogs I have ever had. Their love to their "humans" is amazing! They are devoted and smart as a whip! We will also work with BSR for another Boykin when the time comes! Thank you, BSR, for all you do with our sweet dogs.
I have been a Boykin lover and donor for years. I am constantly impressed with the way the organization cares for the dogs, and the transparency with which they run the organization. I have a lot of organizations which I donate to, but I know where my donations go and the impact that they make. Well done, BSR!
I am a proud volunteer with BSR. I have worked for several nonprofits and I am confident that BSR is one of the best nonprofits around. Each dog is evaluated individually, and care plans are created. They receive best-in-class care, and are placed in homes which will give them the life they are best suited for.
We adopted a “special needs” male Boykin, age 10, four years ago. Our wonderful dog, Crash, is doing very well with a lot of love and proper veterinary care. He overcame several health issues. BSR Rescue was there for us throughout the adoption process and subsequent follow up care, in a very professional and caring manner. The volunteers and staff are exceptional and their love for the breed shows in everything they do.
BSR review
Where do I start? I took in two owner surrender Boykins in 2015. BSR played a crucial role in helping transporting the Boykins from South Carolina to Texas
In 2017 we took in a male Boykin, with the intent of fostering.
He had some medical issues. BSR was on board and very active in helping him get healed. They assisted us both monetarily and morally .
We were always able to call on them for help We ended up adopting our foster. Thus becoming foster ‘failures’.
Our Buddy crossed the rainbow bridge in Dec 2021.
The same day we got another Foster ‘Fail’.
In Nuly 2023 got a call for help from BSR. Had a breeder close down and was getting rid of a bunch of Boykins. We took in a little female ‘Eden’. She’s a joy. So much that when she’s fully vetted she’s gonna hang out with us as her furever home.
BSR sure knows how to help heal a broken heart. There have been other fosters. We can’t keep them all.
I have been a volunteer for BSR for a very long time. I have done several home studies and background checks. BSR is very diligent and makes sure the rescues go to the perfect home.
An unwanted Boykin is a very sad thing, but the best place for them to end up is with Boykin Spaniel Rescue (BSR).

I foster for BSR and adopted Ollie as a senior at 8 yrs old. He has been living his best life for the last 4 years. He’s 12 now and still going strong. This org is a great one that cares about the breed and does what’s best for the dogs. Highly recommend adopt don’t shop!
We started our BSR journey as adopters. We adopted a wonderful boy named Marlin. He is thriving with us, he loves swimming, boating and playing outside with us. He has designated himself as primary caretaker for our senior springer spaniel, making sure she doesn’t lose her way in the dark and playing with her. They are best friends!
We became involved with volunteering because BSR is an amazing group. We have fostered several dogs who are all living their best lives with their forever families. Then we ran into Braye. Braye was a special situation. He came to us with heartworms, ehrlichia and extreme fear aggression. He needed so much help! Thanks to many wonderful people at BSR we had all the help we needed to put him on the right track. Vet care, behavioral assistance, and the knowledge that we were never on our own with him. BSR guided us through all of Braye’s challenges. After 9 months we knew he still had a way to go. We adopted him and now he’s our clown! He loves swimming and supervising his dad from the tractor. Our springer thinks of Marlin and Braye as her minions and they love their benevolent overlord
I cannot think of a more compassionate organization to support!
BSR is a phenomenal organization that’s puts the needs of the boykins first. I am a current volunteer who has participated in home visits and transport services. BSR is organized and transparent. If I could only chose one word to describe the organization it would be dedicated. I hope to always be involved in some capacity. Keep up the great work!!!
BSR volunteers work tirelessly to meet the needs of the dogs in its care.

Boykin Spaniel Rescue is all about the dogs, the state dog of South Carolina, and making sure each dog lives its best life. Boykins in need of care are evaluated, and the best fit is found for them, whether it's a short term foster, long term care, or permanent foster care. I've volunteered for BSR for over 15 years, helping with transport trains, fostering dogs, conducting home visits for prospective adopters in my area. BSR is 'the best' !!!
Boykin Spaniel Rescue is a fantastic rescue and always does what’s best for each LBD .”Little Brown Dog” that needs assistance. From finding transportation to adopting a BSR LBD, they go the extra mile to improve the life of every LBD that comes into their care. They pay thousands of dollars annually for care and treatments. Even have a program for PFC LBD’s, “Permanent Foster Care”, the babies that have Illnesses or issues that won’t improve but they deserve a comfortable and loving place to live the time they have left on this earth. Cannot recommend any higher. Pic - BSR Annye:)
Helping us get our LBD the care he needs thought the best owners possible and treating us with respect through the process, they have been very diligent in getting lots of information regarding the dogs needs and what he is coming from. I feel as I can put trust in them to make the best judgement calls in people character when it comes to care of the a special needs dog.
Our family has always had "Rescue" pets, Dogs and cats. We began a search for a new dog after two years with no pets. Both our Labs passed away within months of each other. It was devastating and took awhile to get excited about a new dog after having the same dogs for years.
We decided we wanted something smaller, sporting breed, that was comfortable in the field or blind, good with children, other people and other dogs.
Then we saw a Boykin Spaniel riding on the front of a Kayak out duck hunting. That was very impressive, and such a nice dog!
Person who owned the dog told me to check online for the Boykin Spaniel Rescue Society.
What a great organization and wonderful people to deal with!
They took all our information in regard to what we were looking for in a dog. As stated earlier, hunt trained, good with kids, other dogs, etc.., age we were looking for, preference of Male or Female or doesn't matter....
We also gave them information about us, where we live, size of yard, fenced, etc...A few months later we got the call they had found a dog for us!
Kizer! 3 year old male who just wasn't a good fit with his current owner, for whatever reason, we are not sure. This owner had called Boykin Spaniel Rescue, knowing they would find him a good home.
We hopped on a flight to Dallas, where Kizer was in the care of a wonderful foster family, who had picked him up from the previous owner, taking care of him until we arrived to pick him up. We drove home with him, Dallas to Seattle, taking a week on the road in a rental van. He was immediately the love of our family and a great traveler! He loves car rides!
The rest is history. We get so much support from Boykin Spaniel Rescue. Any questions or concerns, they are there to help. From behavioral to health related to grooming and training. They have people on board to answer any questions. They are so kind and caring.
We are now officially signed up as fosters with BSR. Which means we can now assist in transportation, intaking or care. Just seemed like a great way to give back.
We highly recommend Boykin Spaniel Rescue.
Kizer is a great dog and we are glad he found us!
I volunteer with the BSR and I also have adopted from the BSR. They are truly amazing. Not only does BSR put the dogs first they are truly there to help the volunteers with care of the dogs and any support the dogs need in there care. Picture of my sweet rescue.
I had a neighbor whose nephew was in terrible condition...his severe addictions led to a terrible living conditions for his two elderly Boykin brothers...they had not been properly taken care of in a long while...heartworm positive, ear infections, skin conditions that had gotten out of control...being a Mama to three wonderful Boykin furbabies the first thing I thought of was BSR...as usual for this wonderful group they stepped right up! I can't possibly express how caring, loving and giving this rescue is...The BSR is more than worthy of any financial help that can be given them...
This organization and the people who run it are angels on earth. Not only do the dogs benefit but the owners also. I do transport and and Old friend of mine called one day with news I had been dreading - that one of them was dead or dying. She said that her health had deteriorated to the point that she could no longer care for her beloved dog and asked for my help contacting BSR. I called the lady in charge and instead of hearing her heave a heavy sigh and imagine an eye roll she said " they both need help-let's get them that". Within hours we had a plan mapped out - who would take her and where she'd be. Lots of heartbreak all around. In a couple of days I helped with transport for this dog who stayed me on my Boykin journey 15 years ago. A year later Gracie died in her foster's arms. Two weeks later her brave owner passed away. I see them at the Rainbow Bridge.
Our first experience with BSR was in 2013.One of our Boykins had passed away, and they connected us with an owner surrender female who stole our hearts. She fit in nicely with our other Boykin, Ben. Now, after 8 years, Bailey has passed away (as has Ben) and we are getting ready to "go'round again". These are amazing dogs and we are so looking forward to sharing our love with them. BSR goes the extra mile to see to it that all Boykins get the life they deserve.

Volunteering with BSR has been a fabulous experience. I have volunteered with numerous animal rescues. BSR is the most organized and efficient, by far. My family has also adopted from BSR. Brady has been a wonderful family companion.
I have become a volunteer to this wonderful organization that loves to preserve The South Carolina State Dog. I can not wait to start helping out when I can. The Boykin Spaniel owners and lovers have such a passion for our Little Brown Dogs, so if they are in trouble The Boykin Spaniel Rescue is a lifesaver.
I've been volunteering with BSR since 2011. I have mostly done transport, and let me tell you the energy and time and attention to detail is amazing. The person putting it together is amazing. The people I have met, in tears over having to rehome their precious pet - then they get news of how the foster and adoption went, details of their new home life, and they know they made the right decision to trust BSR with their pup. BSR has helped so many Boykins find their perfect fit of a home, their success rate is awesome! I have never seen or heard a negative thing about this group, other than from folks who thought they should have been chosen for a particular dog! Each dog receives whatever veterinary care they need, and the foster learns each one's peculiarities and abilities, and helps choose the right adopter. I love this group! Here's a couple of photos I took on transports. It's so rewarding to help with the "Boykin train"!
I can’t say enough great things about this organization. My husband & I volunteer doing all sorts of tasks wherever needed, so we’ve seen how things work first hand. Always at the top of the list is the welfare of the dogs. This is a great team to work with and it’s so rewarding to see so many success stories of Boykins that faced some tough challenges. We will be forever thankful for all that BSR does!
My husband and I are currently owned by our second dog who is in the Permanent Foster Care program. These dogs have enriched our lives so much, and the support we receive from BSR to help us meet these dogs’ needs is fabulous. I also volunteer in other capacities, and the folks involved with BSR are incredibly committed to providing the best lives possible for all of the dogs who come into their care.

We are currently proud adopted parents of Hunter, a big, loving and sometimes goofy Boykin. I'm not sure how we lived without him! We are also fostering another and we've had the pleasure of transport and foster of several Boykins in the last year. BSR is an amazing group of people who partner with we volunteers to help Boykins in need - and the range of needs is broad. Whether an owner can no longer provide necessary care, or a Boykin has developed special needs, or one turns up lost/in a shelter, the goal is always the same: to understand what each dog needs medically, in training/socialization, behavioral assistance . Then the needs are met and after careful consideration, approved adoptions are facilitated. From the top administration to the foster contacts, this Rescue does it right and by the book. I get far more from volunteering than I can give, but it's my pleasure to try.
When we started the adoption process through BSR, we immediately saw that this organization puts the wellbeing of Boykins first. Jake's foster mom had given him so much loving care. BSR works diligently to take care of the physical needs of each dog, but also puts every effort into finding the home that will best match each dog's personality and abilities.
It was not love at first sight. What had I gotten myself into, was more like it when we the transport leg to pick up Ella. She was extremely over weight, little to no fur on her back. Was it mange? She even struggled walking distance. And she would snap if touched in the wrong place. This girl, at 10 1/2 years was given up by the only family she had known. My job was to assess and determine the best fit for her. So we began.
There was a lot of paperwork, and many instructions. I learned as we went, that they care so much for these dogs, and they ensure that they are getting everything they need. There is a set structure for the foster protocol. Wow, this group was for real!
Turns out she had a thyroid issue, so once treated and on a diet exercise plan, she started to improve. The weight dropped, her fur, well that will take time. She started feeling better and became comfortable. We were on our way to getting her ready to find her new life. and then Covid hit. When asked if we could keep her for just a 'little' longer, we agreed. (in truth, I was delighted to be able to continue as part of her journey).
Now here we are, 18 months later. Ella is now a permanent foster with the Boykin Spaniel Rescue. And we are blessed to be her foster forever home. It is an amazing partnership, all for the interest of Ella. She is certainly living her BEST life. She is healthy, happy, feisty, and most of all loved.
My heart breaks to think what would her outcome have been if the Boykin Spaniel Rescue had not been there for her family to have reached out to that day? If at a shelter, she would not have been that cute loveable puppy. Would she even be deemed 'adoptable'?
Boykin Spaniel Rescue truly saved Ella's life. And made a positive impact on mine thru this process.
I have worked with Boykin Spaniel Rescue for several years now as a volunteer and foster. Since that time, I have come to know and appreciate their deep commitment to ALL Boykins; young or old, sick or well. I appreciate that they have standards of care for the dogs and a willingness to be involved in the welfare of all of the dogs brought into BSR. What I love is that from the Chairman to the President, to the Marketing Director, to the volunteers, these people serve because of their love of the breed. They work tirelessly to raise money so that one more unfortunate Boykin Spaniel can have a chance at a new life. In addition, they appreciate the volunteers that work for them and never miss an opportunity to express their gratitude. What I love about Boykin Spaniel Rescue is that everyone is a member of the team. (Photo of Miss Bell- Boykin Spaniel Rescue 0-1169)
After getting my first Boykin Spaniel, I fell in love with the breed. I wanted to do something to help the unfortunate
ones who were abandoned or abused or lost or given up by owners. I found out about the wonderful things BSR does, and decided I wanted to be a part of that. I organized a fundraiser for BSR, and it has become an annual event. There are so many wonderful compassionate hard working volunteers who ARE BSR!
BSR goes above and beyond for each dog that comes into their care. They meet not only the physical but emotional and mental needs of each foster dog and ensures that he or she goes to live in a forever home that best suits them. BSR trains its volunteers to provide the best care and attention for every dog. I really enjoy volunteering with a well run organization.

My husband Jim and I are the happy humans belonging to our 7 year old Boykin, Jessemine. We have been the proud sponsors and co- sponsers of the Boykin Bash which is held I. February during the SEWE in Charleston,SC. We invite all Boykins and their people to attend and all the proceeds go to to BSR. It is held at The Barrel on Folly Beach which is surrounded by Secession Creek so believe me these water loving dogs have a total blast!
Through my working career I lived in Alaska and raised Retrievers and Brittany's from puppies. I participated in AKC shows and participated in and judged various AKC field events. Once retired I moved to MO where I met a great lady with an aging Boykin Spaniel at the vets office. My two Brittany's were 11 and 14 at the time and when she informed me she was with BSR and would be looking for a home for the 11 yo Boykin she had, I figured he would fit right in to my crew. I went through a very thorough process and eventually ended up with my first Boykin "Chief". Within a year BSR had me hooked and I volunteered for transports and anything else they needed. Shortly thereafter I decided this group was worth a little more of my time and I volunteered as a Regional Coordinator. I really enjoy that job since I get to talk with dozens of enthusiastic dog people. Since deciding that i was going to adopt/care for older dogs and sometimes dogs with other medical issues, I have been blessed to cared for 5 more Boykins. The process Boykin Spaniel Rescue goes through to insure the dogs go to good homes is as thorough as I have ever seen. Once adopted or under foster care, the dogs and the adaptors/fosters are provided with all that is needed to try and insure success (medically and/or training needs).
As a long-time foster for several great organizations it is easy to say that BSR is the most professional and most organized that I have worked with! Processes are in place and supported to make sure that every action is taken to ensure the best outcome for the Boykins being fostered and/or adopted. My foster will be with us permanently to ensure that the improvements seen under the care of BSR will continue for the rest of his life. Enzo is now living his best life with structure and constant companionship, and we have a new best friend. Thank you BSR for saving his life!!! ❤
I have been a volunteer for BSR since 2002 when I fostered my first rescue Boykin, Reesie. After months of training, Reesie receive his therapy dog certification and he received the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Obama. Reesie crossed the bridge in 2014, having dedicated many years of service to humankind. The current resident (and spoiled rotten beyond redemption) Boykin is BSR Alum Dobby. Happy go lucky Dobby joined the pack in 2015 and has been devoted to his family ever since. It has been my absolute pleasure to give my time, talent, and treasure to this organization and support the mission of helping Boykins in need. Such devoted volunteers...Their love for this breed is amazing!
Boykin Spaniel Rescue is one of my favorite charities to support because I know they are fiscally responsible yet incredibly generous in providing aid to dogs in need. They are a lean machine and I have seen them work miracles in terms of rescuing and rehabilitation, even in extreme cases requiring long term care. They are professional, resourceful, creative, and caring. I appreciate all of the unending hard work and results driven approach of this organization. They are nimble, efficient and effective. These are not traits commonly found in the world of nonprofits.
Review from Guidestar
I have been involved in dog rescue for years and I have never worked with such a professional rescue organization that truly puts the dogs first. The vetting of applicants and volunteers provides great comfort knowing that any dog that comes into BSR will have top notch care and will be paired with the right family and/or volunteer.
Review from Guidestar
BSR is a wonderful organization that takes excellent care of all the boykins who come into care. The network of volunteers are second to none and jump in to assist at a moments notice. The board and volunteers have a heart for these dogs and place the needs of the dog above all else. I cannot say enough wonderful things about my experiences with this rescue.

I am a proud supporter of the Boykin Spaniel Rescue and an owner of four of these wonderful dogs. It would be easy to go on and on about all the reasons to adopt a Boykin Spaniel. They are smart, athletic, fun-loving dogs who adore their human companions.
The main reason for my review is to endorse this charity as a well-run organization and one that you can feel good about supporting financially. BSR makes its annual Balance Sheet available for review to all of its donors. I encourage anyone who loves Boykin Spaniels to consider donating to this wonderful organization!
I have been a volunteer, Regional Coordinator and now Director of Operations of Marketing since 2012. I have fostered 4 Permanent Fosters, who have been such a joy. The BSR community is second to none. So many people, whether volunteers, fosters, donors, sponsors or fans-- have become friends I will treasure for the rest of my life. We work so hard to make sure each dog is not only healthy, but find that special home where they will not only be loved but will lead a life which is fulfilled.

What a colossal waste of time. I registered and paid the fee January 28. I provided personal, and family member references. I provided access to our vet who we know personally. I did the zoom walk through on my personal residence, showing the huge fenced in back yard. we are just finishing a major update and renovation which included a new doggy door in the master bedroom. We are dog owners. I explained that we had 3 dogs for the past 12 years. Two of those went do doggy heaven over the past year and a half. We are down to just just one dog. Rocky is lonely as he has only know having the other dogs with him. Anne Williams was not satisfied with my house. She wanted pictures BEFORE the renovation. Which seems a bit creepy. Oh, my son started a service group at USC that coordinates volunteers to work at local shelters. HOWEVER, we can not meet the requirements to be a forever home to a Boykin Rescue. In my opinion this organization has some very power hungry people that put their egos above the dogs best interest. NOT A FAN.
This is Beau, my angle and BSR alumnus. He was found as a stray and had some health issues. He was fostered by a generous volunteer for several months and was put up for adoption once healthy. I saw his photo and rushed my application in sooner than I was “ready” for a furbaby. At 5 years old, this hyper, crazy, loving, loyal, light of my life joined my home and changed me forever. BSR helped make the transition from foster to my home after a thorough background check and home visit. They continue to support their rescues and all Boykin Spaniels in need. Donations are well spent and love is given freely.
I am Julie, a volunteer with Boykin Spaniel Rescue! Over the past few years I have been fortunate enough to support BSR by doing several roles, including some of the following: home visits with potential adopters, short-term fosters (usually associated with transport), transport, and assist with some of the organizations business/administrative functions.
Being a volunteer for BSR means so much to me. I love being able to assist in helping the rescued Boykins find their furever homes. There are so many roles and functions and it is important to me to find small and large ways to help out.
BSR as an organization is extremely well run and as a volunteer they make it easy for me to assist and make me feel like my efforts count. I am really proud to be a part of BSR and believe so strongly in our mission to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of at-risk, purebred, Boykin Spaniels. BSR is a wonderful organization doing much needed and very high quality work to rescue, care for and rehome Boykin Spaniels.
The organization managers and volunteers work smart and tirelessly to do what ever it takes when a Boykin needs help.
My experience with BSR has been wonderful. BSR has a good system or method to establish dog need and determine the right fit so that the forever home is found. BSR has several programs that range from rescue, behavior modification training, health care, rehoming to permanent foster care for the seriously ill.
Passion, caring and love for Boykin Spaniels matched with a solid organization run by dedicated leadership and volunteers means it is all about doing what is best for the dogs.

Thank you so much!
Boykin Spaniel Rescue is ALL heart. We followed their work for 20 years and have watched it grow, saving the lives of countless Little Brown Dogs across the US. The love, energy, and enthusiasm for the breed AND individual LBDs, they have continuously shown is amazing.
In looking forward to retirement, my husband wanted to work with them, if only to help with transportation. Unfortunately, our "people" plans did not put us on that path, and our own housing and health issues prevented participation. After having 2 Boykins Babies (Gracie and Beau) of our own, my love for the breed continues. Which reminds me to go get my checkbook and send in financial support. That is the least I can do to celebrate and remember the 2 LBDs that owned US (1998 to 2016). I know BSR will best use Memorials and Donations to rescue, medically care for, foster and rehome other LBDs. That leads to a success story for both the LBDs and the humans that THEY end up rescuing heart-wise. Boykin Spaniel Rescue is compassionately funded and operated. I always felt any contribution to them is well used with direct LBD support, and so "the check will be in the mail" as I tearfully, but happily, remember my 2 kids. - Mary Mallaney
My family was on the wait list for what felt like forever. Every time a new dog came up I would rush to make sure they knew we were interested. It was torture, and every time they would respond with "don't worry, the right dog will find YOU!" And they were absolutely right. We adopted my third child, as my other two kids call her, about 3 years ago. She is the perfect fit for our family checking all the boxes possible. BSR does an incredible job matching families with the right rescue. We have had two different friends fall so in love with Ellie that they have contacted BSR themselves and been matched. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this group and their volunteers!
I am blessed to have found this organization. Everyday is a day of encouragement and support for those who need it. I look forward to being able to support their endeavors in the future. This is work that is vital for the support of Boykin spaniels who need respite.
Our son had a Boykin Spaniel puppy, Hanna, and it was love at first sight. A few weeks later we were given an opportunity to adopt a three year old Boykin, Jesse. When our son passed away, we inherited Hanna. We love our LBD’s beyond measure. They are intelligent, anxious to please, gentle spirited and loving little monkeys, and no one can resist their beautiful expressve eyes.
Because of our fascination with these dogs, I volunteered with BSR. It can keep me busy at times, but it is so worth every minute to know that we are able to work together to find good homes for our LBD’s.
I got my first LBD in 1985, and have had Boykins since. I was so pleased with BSR when they placed us with our first rescue almost 20 years ago. Since that wonderful rescue, we made the decision to always have at lease two LBDs. We always adopt/rescue. Love this breed - best breed ever!!
PLUS, BSR is the best rescue organization for Boykins. So compassionate and caring.
A well run organization with total focus and mission to the rescue, care, and placement of this special breed.
Great job BSR! Keep up the good work.
Meet our boys, Remy and Victor!
After our beloved 13-year old Boykin Spaniel, Baxter, died, we turned to BSR to adopt a Boykin in need of a good home. As a retired couple, we knew that an adult dog would be the best choice. Six months later, we adopted Bella, who was 6 1/2 years old. She came to us with some anxiety and fear issues, which we continue to work on. After 8 months together, we are delighted to have this sweet, goofy little brown dog in our family. We are very impressed with the BSR. The volunteers and staff are professional, and committed to providing loving homes for Boykins looking for forever homes. This is a first-rate organization; we highly commend them for the wonderful work they do!
BSR rescued our Boykin when he lost his sight due to juvenile cataracts and was given up by his original owner who was not able to keep him due to his aggressive behavior. BSR saved his life by paying for his cataracts to be removed. They selected us, a retired couple, to give him a new home and a new life.. All the volunteers work hard to do everything possible for Boykins in need
I am impressed that a diverse group of individuals have rallied around a common goal of rescuing individual dogs that are experiencing difficulties, some life threatening. Members enroll for different tasks: home visits, transportation, foster care, permanent foster care, etc. This is all strictly voluntary, which makes it all the more remarkable.
I have had 2 BSR dogs in the last 12-14 years. These are rescues and I knew they would possibly have issues but that did not matter. My first one, a female, had separation anxiety and it took a very long time dealing with it. She became my beloved dog and I would never have traded her for anything in the world. I became a volunteer with BSR just because of my sweet Lady. I fostered dogs, helped transfer dogs and then fell in love with another Boykin foster, a male, and ended up adopting him.
This organization has an amazing group of volunteers that network and will go to the ends of the earth to save our Boykins. The support from BSR is over the top and they are constantly on the look out for Boykins that need help.
I financially support this organization and rate them on a scale of 1-10 as a 10+. Way to go BSR
We were called in 2014 to foster a very ill 7 month old Boykin Spaniel that had been diagnosed with diabetes and possible pancreatitis. He was not expected to live. BSR supported his critical care treatment and we brought him home to try to get his disease under control. Jackson is now 5 years old! His health problems include 3 leaking heart valves, seizure disorder, and diabetic cataracts. The diabetes continues being an issue, an he has been treated twice for recurrent pancreatitis. Through it all BSR has supported us emotionally and financially. A low estimate of the financial support is $10000! Jackson is an active, happy, goofy little boy that charms everyone he meets. We pray for his continued good response to treatment, and are so thankful for his friends from BSR! The first photo is from his first week at home, showing his emaciated body. The last two are recent pictures.
I am on my 4th Boykin Rescue. My first one is now 16 to. 2 have passed and I got my 4th one last year from them. This dog would not have survived had he not had treatment for heartworms and other intestinal parasites. He is as an awesome addition. This group does an amazing job of screening and homing these wonderful Little Brown Dogs! Thanks Boykin Spaniel Rescue and Little Brown Dogs!!! Thanks for my wonderful dogs and gor your lifesaving work.! Susan D.Hundley,MD
This non profit group is made of wonderful hardworking individuals that truly care about the well being and safety of Boykin Spaniels all across the states
BSR is an organization whose volunteers and staff are dedicated 100% to the welfare of all Boykin Spaniels in need. I was so fortunate to have been selected as an adopter after my (now) boy Bodie was surrendered by his former family. The vetting process was a very thorough one. The needs of each dog are first and foremost. It's not about finding the best dog for each adopter, but instead, it's about finding the best home for each dog, where they can live their best life possible.
We have a rescue from BSR, best move ever! They took a dog that had never been in a house, to ready to be adopted in a short time. They also took care of all his medical needs! Don't know what I would do without my boy Baxter, BSR 1043! Love my boy, got to go, he's waiting for me to throw that ball!
The Boykin Spaniel Rescue is such a great nonprofit organization because they take in the sick, broken, unwanted Boykins and turn them into the most memorable family member you will ever know. Even if the LBD (little brown dog) only has a very short time left on this earth, BSR makes sure that dog knows love.
I am so proud to support this nonprofit in every way I am able.
These people are 100% heart. My daughter adopted a dog that had been surrendered by his owner through this group, and they were wonderful. They offer extensive support for the charming Boykin Spaniel dog breed, finding foster and forever homes for unfortunate victims of circumstance. They assist with transportation and medical expenses in some cases. Their processes and administration are transparent and operate with integrity. They really are a great non-profit!

Thank you so much for your kind words. We appreciate it so much!
BSR exceeds my expectations in every aspect that I have interacted with them...from transporting to helping us find the perfect rescue.

Thank you! And, he is pretty perfect!
We think Boykin Spaniel Rescue is an awesome organization! We were able to volunteer with them to help transport a dog to a foster parent who then was able to help the sweet dog to get well enough to be able to have a new forever home. They do so many wonderful things for our beloved Boykin Spaniel breed. We were able to adopt a rescue Boykin Spaniel from them last year and he is certainly living proof of how much this organization is needed and how much hope and love they can bring to a neglected or abused animal. We are forever indebted to them for our precious boy.

Thank you. Ruger sure hit the jackpot with you!
This is an amazing group of people who rescue, foster and re-home Boykins. They support certain dogs who have life-long, chronic health problems through their permanent foster care program. This gives dogs that would otherwise have to be put down, a good, healthy life, in a loving family, with no worries about vet bills, expensive test, etc. This group is 100% dedicated to this breed. When puppy mill breeders reject 'breeding stock' or dog hoarders are forced to give up their dogs, when a family simply cannot care for their Boykin, due to changing circumstances - whatever the reason - BSR steps in and gives every dog love, and care, and the promise of their best life.
All of our dogs over the last 30 years have been adoptees or rescues. Our experience with BSR was excellent. Anyone planning on adopting or rescuing a animal should understand that the goal of the agency placing the pet is to find that pet a "forever" home. Doing so requires matching the right pet with the right situation. This requires gathering information, home visits, etc. BSR did a tremendous job of explaining their process and were very transparent along the way. It took a while to find Leia, but we couldn't be happier. She is the perfect fit for our family, and brings us a boat load of joy everyday (sometimes literally). Thank you to everyone we interacted with at BSR. We highly recommend them if you are looking to rescue a dog and want the best fit for your situation.
From a small group of passionate Boykin Spaniel lovers to a highly organized, extremely effective volunteer organization, BSR is well managed. Having worked in the nonprofit world for over 15 years, I have no qualms about making donations to BSR knowing that it will not be squandered.

Thank you for your faith in us! We work hard to maintain that!
This rescue is extremely transparent and does a wonderful job of finding new homes for Boykin spaniels.

Thank you so much!
I have experience both as an adopter and a volunteer. This is an organization that truly cares about our Boykins and goes above and beyond to help them. I have seen them drop everything to help a Boykin in need, from the top down to the volunteers helping pull and transport. They have wonderful volunteers, who may not be huge in numbers compared to other rescues, but are mighty in the way they love the dogs and respond to a need. Below are also 2 of my reasons to believe in them and support however I can.

We now have over 400 volunteers throughout the US! And growing! Thank you for your dedication to BSR!
I have been involved with this organization for a long time.
They are great at helping Boykins and their peeps.
I fear what would happen to all the Boykins if they weren’t there to step in and help.
This is the face of a Rescue.
Buddy came to us in Aug 2018. It took until April 2019 to get him healthy. What would have happened to Buddy if BSR hadn’t stepped up?
It does take a village and BSR along with its Army of volunteers are that village.
BSR ROCKS.

Oh Buddy, we are so happy you are in such a great home!
This organization is composed of the most passionate, dedicated, professional people I have ever dealt with. Their purpose is to rehabilitate and rehome Boykin Spaniels who have been relinquished to them for various reasons. Most rescues have medical and/or behavioral issues and many are senior dogs. No dog is ever turned away and many are in the permanent care of Boykin Spaniel Rescue. Volunteers sometimes drive miles and form relays to identify, pick up or transport dogs to fosters or adopters. The transformation of some of these dogs is remarkable, thanks to the wonderful volunteers and generous donors who support Boykin Spaniel Rescue.
