Causes: Civil Rights, Disabilities, Disabled Persons Rights
Mission: The Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF) is a national law and policy center dedicated to furthering the civil and human rights of people with disabilities. Founded in 1979, DREDF continues to be managed and directed by people with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities. Our work promotes the full integration of people with disabilities into the mainstream of society.
Geographic areas served: National/International
Programs: Technical assistance, information and referrals on disability rights laws and policies; training, information, and legal advocacy to parents of children with disabilities; legal representation to adults and children with disabilities involving rights to employment, education, transportation, housing,health care, and access to public accommodations; training on provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act; education for legislators and policy makers on issues affecting rights of people with disabilities; training for law students through a course in disability rights law and a clinical program working on DREDF cases; and a media and disability project that monitors and analyzes news coverage of disability issues.
