The Bandon Community Youth Center was established in 1998 to serve the students of Bandon and the greater area where currently (2017) more than 60% qualify for free or reduced price meals. In 2014 the mission statement was changed from serving at risk only youth, to serving all youth and families of the greater Bandon area and now provides academic support in the form of a after school homework help program M-Th at their facility, math tutoring M-Th for grades 5-8 after school at the local middle school and family engagement activities. Studies show that academic success is greater when there is family involvement. The small board struggles to grow the board, write grants, and expand needed program offerings. The math tutoring program is tracking success for grant reporting, with hopes to expand. This is a viable organization worthy of support.
