As a native of Asheville, I was there at Pisgah Legal's inception, as the creators were friends with my family in this small community. Pisgah Legal has helped me personally and countless others who I connected with or referred to them, because I work in mental health/substance use/IDD and persons who experience homelessness. It is an invaluable resource for our community!

This company says they want to help people not be homeless but they do not. They are biased against landlords and will not help landlords even when the tenants are 100% in the wrong and making it so the landlord is homeless. Unfair and useless. Do not donate.

First off I would like to start by stating the positives, I would like to thank all the people that donate their time to help people that are low income like myself.

I have used Pisgah legal services in the past one other time and had a great experience.

Presently, I will not go to deep into my case, but will say the Attorney that I spoke recently with really did not give me good advice in fact it is totally wrong, ( my case is a bit tricky I will admit) when I asked about a Federal law that I had researched myself and is prevalent to my case and told him about it and that had been researching he kind of laughed and said I knew more about it that he did, also he did not know any answers about section 8 laws and tenants rights.

He told me wrong information, which I knew in my gut he was wrong but who am I to question someone who does that for a living, plus I was not paying him, so I reached out to another agency who also helps low income, when I spoke with her today, she quoted statue's of NC and I feel very confident she knows what she is doing, and any questions I had that she did not know she said she had to do some research herself and would get back to me by two days.

I do not think he purposely told me the wrong information, but if I would have listened to him without getting another opinion it could have really turned out bad for me, and I feel that because I am low income and not paying, I did not matter as much as someone who is paying, (maybe that's in my head but that is what it felt like kind of rushed and nonchalant), and I will say about my case to no fault of my own I could be facing having to get out of the lease I am in, like I said I appreciate his time and him volunteering for Pisgah legal, and we all are human and make mistakes, but his mistakes were surprisingly very off! I even knew after I spoke with him that what he said was not correct, although he was very nice and tried to be helpful just totally wrong information.

All I want to say with this review is be careful!!!! double check and do research yourself, and if something does not feel right, it most likely is not, just because someone does this for a living they also can be wrong and way off.

My grandson was in need of legal aid for domestic violence from his girlfriend toward him and their baby. He was told they could no longer help him because he was being passive aggressive by calling them so much about some forms Pisgah Legals Services they said they would mail to him before his court date and he had not received the forms. I think this is pretty low. He is only concerned for the safety of himself and his child. If you tell someone you are going to send them forms they should be sent the next day and that way you won’t be bothered by phone calls.

We're so sorry to hear about your experience. If you ever need our services again, we hope you'll give us another try. We're constantly working to decrease the wait time to access our services and improve the whole process of working with our clients. We are an independent nonprofit and try our hardest to meet folks living in poverty who need free civil legal aid where they are.

For more than 30 years, Pisgah Legal Services has pursued justice by providing civil (non-criminal) legal assistance to low-income people. For our clients, justice is not just an abstract ideal. It is food, shelter and protection. Every day we receive dozens of phone calls from people who: - are about to be evicted from their home; - are trying to escape domestic violence; - have been denied access to health care; - need food, utilities, subsistence income and other essentials. For these people, only an attorney can solve their problem, and Pisgah Legal Services is the only resource for the civil legal help they need. We have also: Partnered with dozens of other agencies to provide comprehensive services for people in crisis; Maximized resources by leveraging the pro bono services of more than 300 area attorneys; and Earned a reputation for management excellence and good stewardship of charitable resources. In 2009, we served 10,122 low-income people, helping them stay in their homes, get access to health care, and find protection from domestic abuse.
