Programs: The Aquatic Outreach Institute creates and carries out involvement and outreach programs on creeks, wetlands, and watersheds for the general public and educators in the San Francisco Bay Area. AOI has served thousands of Bay Area teachers and youth through workshops including --Kids in Gardens, Kids in Creeks, Kids in Marshes, Watching our Watersheds, Wildlife Gardener and Gardening for Wildlife. AOI also coordinates Watershed Awareness Programs. These are grassroots programs in which AOI forms citizens, group that work with local government to do outreach and education and carry out restoration projects. Through its Watershed Awareness Programs AOI has founded two Friends of groups in Alameda County that are now independent nonprofits, AOI is currently implementing two Watershed Awareness Programs in Contra Costa County, SPAWNERS and the Friends of Baxter Creek. AOI also provides regional services throughout the larger Bay Area. This is a new program area for AOI that builds on the organization's existing network of programs and contacts. Through its Regional Services, AOI holds an annual conference for educators and the general public publishes Creeks Speak newsletter; maintains a Web site, and offers technical and organizational consulting to creek and watershed groups throughout the SF Bay Area.
