The work that Save the Children non-profit is a wonderful demonstration of God's love!! The Outreach has touched and supported the lives of so many children! I am proud to be a contributing person to this outstanding work!
I’ve been a donator and supporter of Save The Children for many years. That support began when our small town suffered ravaging wildfires in 2003 and 2007, the worst in California’s history at that time. I was principal of an elementary school at the time, and a number of our students and families lost their homes. More were displaced for weeks at a time. Save The Children came in and provided backpacks and comfort kits for every student in our district, which at the time numbered approximately 6000 students. Save The Children had a group of young adult volunteers who were at our schools every day for weeks, just to monitor things and be there in case children needed some extra support. Because our town was cut off from a major water supply, Save The Children also helped arrange for porta potties at our schools… LOTS of Porta potties at every school! I was so touched by their support, by how quickly they arrived, and how efficiently and effectively they reached out to families.
Save the Children is a great cause and a very professionally run nonprofit. I am extremely pleased and satisfied with their efforts, commitment and communications.
Until recently and for several years I had been sponsoring two girls, one in Vietnam and one in Egypt and was enjoying it.
Apparently though I violated Save the Children’s letter writing policies. I think it’s because I mentioned to the girl in Egypt who’s in high school that I had started an effort to connect teens from around the world but I’m not really sure.
I received communication from Save the Children informing me my sponsorships were canceled and when I tried to follow up a few times could never get clarity.
I am very disappointed in how this was handled. I wish the organization had informed me of the exact violation with an explanation and some warning. I would have been very happy to rewrite a letter and take out anything that was in violation of a policy I couldn’t easily find on the website.
I also asked what happens to the children I was sponsoring and also never got a reply.
The whole experience has been distressing to me because I want to do the right thing and feel the approach by Save the Children is punitive to both the sponsors and the children, to sever it rather than issue a warning, and to not just tear up the offensive letter and allow the sponsor another opportunity.
