The Barbara Bush Library Friends are critical supporters who help the library fulfill its mission of service to the Cypress Creek community. In these challenging economic times, they have helped the library to provide free children's programming, additional staff in peak seasons, supplemental materials for the collection, needed supplies, updated technology, and more. I am proud to work with these dedicated volunteers who make such a difference to the quality of the services the library can offer.

The Cypress Creek Friends of the Library, today known as the Barbara Bush Library Friends, provides invaluable support for the work of the Barbara Bush Library. This group provides both volunteer hours and monetary support that enhance the library's staff, materials, programming, and supplies. The Friends helped form the original Cypress Creek Library (a branch of the Harris County Public Library) in 1976, and later helped raise more than $500,000 to supplement the collection and furnishings of the new Barbara Bush Library which replaced it in 2002. Today they continue to make the library a wonderful resource for people of all ages and backgrounds in our community.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
its daily operations since 1995 when I became the Branch Librarian. The board of the Friends has changed membership over the years, but the members have continued to be talented, generous and hard-working people who value libraries and the services they provide to improve the lives of individuals and the life of the community in general.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
encourage even more people to join, to experience the power of making a difference in their community. It is exciting to work with such a group that is so creative, dedicated, and yes, even fun-loving!
