I've been a board member for a few years but it's only been 4 years since I came to really know (and LOVE) the work of Catholic Charities of Atlanta. And that's with living in ATL for >20 years. I did know of some of the work they did, but after being invited to an event where they went over all the services they provide (Veterans, Refugees, Family Stabilization, Housing Services, etc.) did I become fully aware of the impact they are making. The huge difference is the "case management" approach to the help they provide. So many charities that are out there will say, pay the electric bill, or pay a month's rent for folks in need, but CCA takes ownership of the "case" and gets to the root cause or issue that is causing the problem, and works with the families to solve those problems, and get the families to self sufficiency. In fact, some of the metrics they monitor are things like "self sufficiency" which is what we would all like to see. For example when CCA takes on a refugee family, 90-95%+ of those families become SELF SUFFICENT (i.e. jobs, housing, school for kids, transportation, food, etc.) in less than 6 months! After learning about all this great work, I structured my giving & volunteering toward CCA because i know it is absolutely getting results!
