Programs:

The wyland foundation is dedicated to promoting, protecting, and preserving the world's ocean, waterways, and marine life. The foundation encourages environmental awareness by bringing communities together and inspiring thousands of people each year to become more positive, solution-oriented stewards of our global marine resources. This has been accomplished through public art programs, community service campaigns, classroom art and science education, and live events. Major annual and ongoing programs include the national mayor's challenge for water conservation, national "water is life" classroom mural challenge, the 1,000 sq. Foot traveling clean water mobile learning center, and forests, ocean, climate - and us (focus) in partnership with the usda forest servicenotable community service benefits include:in 2014, the national mayor's challenge for water conservation, a national conservation awareness campaign created by the wyland foundation, provided a multi-media engagement platform at mywaterpledge. Com for residents in 3,900 cities to save a collective 1. 4 billion gallons of water, reduce 3 million pounds of waste sent to landfills, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5. 3 billion pounds over the next year. A post event survey of 1,800 people showed a positive year over year change in knowledge and attitudes about water conservation. In addition to its cumulative service benefits since 2007, the wyland clean water mobile learning center, a 1,000 square foot interactive science center on wheels, has directly served 40 schools in 17 states in 2014, including 15 percent of schools in communities characterized as disadvantaged or title 1. The center demonstrates the many ways water shapes our lives and rolls directly into schools, festivals, and community events with a variety of interactive educational exhibits, including a large enviroscape model with actual rain over a city landscape, a running river to simulate urban demands for finite water supplies, computer model simulations, and a 40 person on-board multi-sensory theater. Each visit includes pre- and post-visit teacher lesson and activity guide. It is estimated that the center saved schools over $200,000 in field trip busing costs, based on avg school bus rental costs. The foundation's 2014 national "water is life" classroom mural and art contest provided 9,000 students at schools across the u. S. With art supplies and educational instruction about the economic, cultural and aesthetic value of our ocean, lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands. The contest encouraged students to study local and national water issues and work collaboratively with their peers to communicate their discoveries to the community. The process of interpreting water-based habitats through art is designed to lead students to a greater understanding of their role as future caretakers of our water resources and habitats. The annual earth month heroes campaign helped provide supplies for teachers and individuals who are making a positive impact on the local environment through their hard work, commitment, and inspiration. The campaign raises the public profile of these individuals with annual televised feature on the los angeles regional cbs television news affiliate reaching over 100,000 viewers.

Reviews for Wyland Foundation

I have volunteered with the Wyland Foundation on several occasions and have always had a positive experience. First off, the Wyland Foundation is an exceptional organization with a clear vision to educate the general public on the importance of clean water, healthy oceans and water conservation. To support this vision, they've developed a number of really great programs to educate and engage people; from children to parents and teenagers to teachers.

The staff are also incredible. They've knowledgeable and - more importantly - passionate about what they do. The Wyland Foundation wouldn't have the same impact or be what it is today without the people driving the message.

If you're interested in volunteering or supporting a non-profit that can truly have an impact on the world, I would highly suggest looking at the Wyland Foundation.

I've volunteered at a few Wyland Foundation events. The environmental message is well conveyed through various fun, kid-friendly activities such as painting a mural. The staff from the foundation are all great and are genuinely passionate about their work.

I volunteered at the Wyland Living Green Fair at the Port of Long Beach's Green Port festival. The festival showcased organizations that are actively involved in making a positive difference in the health of our planet's environment. The Wyland Foundation brought it's mobile learning center to the event and had booths staffed with friendly and knowledgeable guides. Wyland, the internationally acclaimed marine wildlife artist painted a beautiful mural with children who attended the event. The food, weather, music and especially the community of energetic and passionate people helped to make this a meaningful and fun event.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the education of people, especially children who come through the mobile learning center and those who are moved by the beauty of our marine life as captured in Wyland's art.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

look at new innovative new ways to communicate with our youth, perhaps connecting with them through different mediums like graphic novels, short documentaries, etc.

Fun and educational atmosphere. Great music. Festive decor and great natural scenery from the Ocean Insitute in Dana Point. Painting activity with Wyland and the kids provided a wonderful learning opportunity for them. Nice variety of food and beverages. The Wyland staff were professional and personable. Good set-up of silent auction and auction. Enviromental message clear and throughout. Great event.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

We have volunteered in a variety of Wyland fundraising events .

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Perhaps holding the event during a non- holiday weekend.
